I would like to say that the choice of aborting a baby, no no! The choice of aborting a fetus, which is not really life as others said, should be given to the older woman carrying a child. Not only is it for medical reasons to possibly save a life if they can't handle it, but the fetus is not a baby even born yet. Children have to grow up by becoming 18 at least in the USA, anyway, so technically, giving a fetus rights to live over the mother's choice to abort a child is just contradicting the laws of adulthood, is it not?

Also, people who believe abortion is wrong; mainly religious people; may just want the fetus to be born so there would be more power given to religion or the church. Why? Because more people means more power. The same can be said for politics and people who are politicians who believe abortion is wrong, and they are more so using it as an excuse to gain more power by having more people born so they can have more power to exert, and perhaps more people to take advantage of.

That said, one more thing; about women who might die because they were forced to give birth to a child that might kill them if they can't handle it, those who deny such women those rights are not only wanting a fetus to be born for, reasons, but they are hypocrites if they say they value life, for they do not value the lives of such women who may die due to child birth that they can't handle.

It's pretty well documented that people in leadership a number of years back identified abortion as a promising wedge issue and have focused there efforts on it in order to maximize their base.

Really? Pretty interesting, I must say. Really. Not surprising, too.

Really. In the late 70s, there was this thing called Moral Majority, led by a Christian pastor named Jerry Falwell, who conflated religion and politics by preaching that abortion was murder and that the moral duty of a good and faithful Christian was to declare him or herself to be "pro-life." It was, perhaps, the most successful marketing campaign ever launched in the political sphere, creating legions of single-issue voters who would stand in line at the polls in any weather to elect pro-life candidates.

By framing abortion as the most important threat in a broad secular assault on "family values" and using rhetoric of the "sanctity of life" (lifted directly from the Roman Catholic catechism) a group of what were essentially lobbyists found they could mobilize conservative voters throughout the Bible Belt, millions of citizens who had previously been politically passive.

But it wasn’t just abortion: the Moral Majority and their allies hated homosexuality, single parenthood, pornography, feminism, and legions of other secular "ills".

Overnight, they were pulling the lever for the Republican candidates and it became the Christian way to signal a vote for "life," because this was the way the God of the Bible said he wanted things to be. Millions of Christians flocked to the polls, electing Ronald Reagan in a landslide to appoint Supreme Court Justices to overturn Roe. Poor women, who disproportionately use abortion clinics, were just the collateral damage, painted as heedless, heartless killers lacking in conscience, personal responsibility, and heart.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Sounds like more of an attempt to gain power more than being pro-life. People are so easy to manipulate it seems, but that does not make those Moral Majority was right. I doubt they would be really pro-life, especially with the other things they hate like homosexuality.

This is why I don't like religion, as it was just a grab for power, and does more harm than good for society and its people. Due to its history with sexism, religion and the Moral Majority just are/were things that were trying to suppress women and their rights anyway. Plus, the USA is supposed to have a separation of religion and politics. We need to fix that and improve that more.
