"‘Spontaneous generation’ was a mainstream scientific doctrine for a very long time, until proven wrong by Francesco Redi and Louis Pasteur. Even then it died a slow and painful death. Spontaneous generation basically proposed that given the right conditions and precursors, life would arise all by itself ‘spontaneously’. Complex beings like maggots and flies do not spontaneously emerge from rotten meat, sure. But how is this evidence against abiogenesis as it is understood to mean? And how is this evidence for intelligent design? Abiogenesis isn't proposing that life arose spontaneously, after all.

Life isn't some magical force that requires a magical switch to be flipped for it to be set to "on". It's purely physical. You might be confusing life with soul or something.
