Which is a fuckin shame, but apparently it's the best we can do.  Sorry, world - from America.

when you are grasping, don’t complain it is merely a straw.

that’s how trice within 23 years, the United States ended up without even a straw at the end of a presidential election

Judge Chutkan just handed Trump's legal team their arse. The trial is scheduled for 4 March 2024. Delays due to motions are likely, but it's still not the April 2026 date his team wanted.

Just in case anyone thought Trump is the only protofascist running for the nomination:

Quote:Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said Sunday that he thinks former Vice President Mike Pence missed a “historic opportunity” when he refused to intervene in the ceremonial counting of electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2021, to secure the 2020 presidential election for former President Trump.

Ramaswamy, in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” was asked whether Pence did the right thing on Jan. 6 — a question other candidates were pressed to answer on the debate stage Wednesday night, but one he managed to avoid.

“I would have done it very differently,” Ramaswamy said when asked whether Pence did the right thing. “I think that there was a historic opportunity that he missed to reunite this country in that window.”

Ramaswamy continued, providing the answer he had prepared and would have used for the debate, had the moderators pressed him to answer the question.

“What I would have said is, this is a moment for a true national consensus where there’s two elements of what’s required for a functioning democracy in America. One is secure elections, and the second is a peaceful transfer of power. When those things come into conflict, that’s an opportunity for heroism. Here’s what I would have said, we need single-day voting on Election Day. We need paper ballots, and we need government-issued ID matching the voter file. And if we achieve that, then we have achieved victory, and we should not have any further complaint about election integrity,” Ramaswamy said.

This would have fractured the country beyond repair. Had it happened, I wouldn't have been surprised to see many states breaking off, or at least attempting to break off, from the union. Especially the deeply blue states.

Agreed. A man with such shoddy political acumen has no business being anywhere near the White House.

That may have been his point. People like Ramaswamy, Boebert, Palin, etc seem to positively yearn for the balkanization of the US.

I do not look forward to another election circus. But, it'll be here soon.

I must say that I have been under-impressed with Kamala Harris. Of course, she has been nearly invisible so I have no idea what she might be capable of.

no,  they are just short sighted parasites who thinks their host still has lots of living fat for them to devour,  oblivious to the fact the host may die and they are unlikely to survive their host.

Being oblivious to the consequences of shattering the US doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like to see it happen. Just the opposite.

RE: 2024 US Presidential Election
Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is “old” and “confused,” and former President Donald Trump is “corrupt” and “dishonest.” Those are among the top terms Americans use when they’re asked to describe the Democrat in the White House and the Republican best positioned to face him in next year’s election.

Unflattering portraits of Biden and Trump emerge clearly in a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, which asked an open-ended question about what comes to mind when people think of them.

For Biden, the largest share of U.S. adults — including both Democrats and Republicans — mentioned his age. At 80, Biden is just three years older than Trump, but many Americans expressed real concerns about his ability to continue as president.

rump, meanwhile, has been indicted in four cases featuring 91 total criminal counts and elicits words such as “corrupt” and “crooked” (named by 15%), along with “bad” and other generally negative comments (11%). Not far behind are words like “liar” and “dishonest” (8%). Another 8% offered generally positive comments like “good,” though.

A deeper look doesn’t improve things much for Biden or Trump. And while many of the criticisms reflect a familiar partisan divide, the poll shows neither man is immune to criticism from within his own party.
