teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

There are those in the deep south who are going to buy into anything that they think may prove their side.
Many are still mentally fighting the civil war. Or as I was told - That's the war of Northern Aggression to you Missy. This wasn't all that many years ago and wasn't anything that surprised me after living a few years in SC.
Trump is playing to an audience that wants to hear things like this.

It's the economy, stupid.
Trump wants the US economy to crash this year so that he can win.

It's almost always about the economy. Republicans claim that Trump would've won a second term if not for the pandemic. They may be right.
I think that is the Republican house strategy. Tank the country so that Trump can get into power. Then they can plot how to stay in power forever.

Who needs equality, freedom, or justice anyway?
