As their plan to 'save' Social Security, US House Republicans have suggested 1) raising the retirement age, 2) reducing benefits, and 3) converting Medicare into a voucher-style, premium-supported programme. Notably absent from the list is raising taxes on wealthy Americans, an idea that typically gets about 70% support in public opinion polls.
It's almost like they're campaigning for Joe Biden.

This might not exactly fit this thread but I think it would be hilarious if House speaker Johnson would come back from break and resign on the first day. Not let them hold the threat of removal over his head. It would be a great big fuck you to MTG and their faction.

What's even more intriguing (to me, at least) is that the Republicans, due to the spate of resignations, stand a real chance of losing their House majority - as of 19 April, it'll be a single vote.
'Speaker Jeffries' has a nice ring to it.

If he had a pair of balls he'd send the bill to the floor and tell the House that if it doesn't pass he'll walk away. But he won't do that, because Dominionist Christianism.

He could always say the god spoke to him and demanded that he put the bill to a vote to prove his/gods righteousness. What would that faction do then?

I've been thinking it for some time now but didn't want to go on record with it. I think Trump is going to lose. Despite the polls, I think he's got too many headwinds to overcome.
