Yes, for I have the sense to listen to others, and not speak of topics not raised. Politics and religion have always been avoided in polite company in order to not create dissension.

That is the essence of polite conversation.

Did you think you wandered into a place that requires polite conversation?  If so, you must have taken a wrong turn along the way.

You might say that I am still feeling my way, and autmatically revert to what I know must be acceptable in any company. I daresay I will become more emboldened in time.

You may or may not have noticed, but the topic here, specifically, is the 2024 Presidential election.

As such, discussing politics is de rigeur. If you'd rather not discuss politics, perhaps don't post in a thread titled "2024 Presidential Elections" in a subforum entitled "Politics".

Your clue is in the titles.

Thank you, but I was only mentioning that one did not bring up politics or religion in polite conversation at parties.

Although entertaining, I would not describe this forum as a party . . . would you?

One can, of course discuss the inanities of the parties involved in the current political season. Although a Liberal Constitutionalist, I am always delighted to observe what the various parties are doing, or not doing, to further their aims.

And as there is no party for Liberal Constitutionalists in America, I am able to takes sides for or against everyone quite freely.

Hang on, there is one member who will show up to befriend you and can be as snarky.  You'll make a good pair.

You're in an explicitly political thread protesting that politics is not "polite conversation". I'm not interested in your personal preferences for party conversation, nor am I saying this is a party.

If you don't want to discuss politics in an internet forum, perhaps you shouldn't venture into their politics subforum. Alternately, if you do so venture, quit pleading for norm in party life to apply in a discussion-space designed precisely to discuss politics. This is not a cocktail party, and you don't get to tailor standards here.

On this forum, politeness is only rewarded to those whose opinions fall within a very narrow range of approved ideas.

Anything you express outside of this range will be met with something other than politeness -- and taking pleasure in bullying people is encouraged.

If you spend much time here you'll see what is approved and what isn't.

You may well have let him know that passive-aggressive horseshit isn't appreciated while you were at it.
