I am surprised the supposed assassination attempt on Trump hasn't been played up to the hilt. Something along the lines of god saved him for the presidency.

I think they'll lean hard on it in the last days of the campaign. Not to swing any potential undecideds, but for a "gawd saved him for you, so get out and vote!" type push of the base that may be staying home from disillusionment.

He was shot* by a GOP voter, they -really- don't want to draw attention to that I don't think doing so hurts his base but it doesn't reach anyone else in a positive way.

If the press wants to do things differently this time around, fine. But if they’re going to do that, then they have a responsibility to both explain the change and make it clear that they botched 2016.

I've read some apologia arguing exactly that: that after 2016 they saw their unfairness and have tried to change course. I'm not sure I buy it.

If they do make it a talking point, they’ll portray the shooter’s party affiliation as fake news, then spin the whole thing as a beautiful wound, the greatest wound in the history of our country, no one could even imagine a wound like this.

It's odd Trump hasn't been beating his chest over this. Maybe he's losing a step? 2016 Trump would make a piece of concrete remember this.
