So they don't pay anything besides the pump price. "Congestion fee", anyone?
Only if you want to go to the hellish place that is the london road system.
Just one example.

british petrol prices are a joke, we pay more on the tax on the petrol than the cost of the petrol itself.

Of course they do, I didn't suggest otherwise, what I was getting at is this: You pay much more of the price of oil in taxes and other costs than they do, this needs to be taken into an account before you start saying nonsense like they pay 2-3 times as much. While the rest of the world may pay more at the pump than Americans we also subsidies a small fraction of what you do.

The sad thing is that when gas prices do eventually drop 10 cents a gallon, they'll run around screaming about how great their god is because he answered their prayers. And next year gas prices go up another dollar.
Meanwhile, children in Africa praying for food are still starving.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

The price of petrol in Britain is beyond, even diesel is not much better, I know many families and businesses who are really hurting and struggling to stay afloat.
While we're in this situation, we could have saved ourselves by using public transport and the railways as a commuting alternative, however some arsehole thought it a brilliant idea to axe thousands of miles of our infrastructure. We're screwed in this regard since parts of it have been sold off to property development meaning we can never put it back the way it was and worse still we have to still maintain those structures of the disused network or forced into spending millions turning them into bloody cycle tracks.
At least the Americans were smart enough to keep these permanent ways intact and have laws protecting them being developed upon should they return to profitability, but not this country's government, oh no, short-term solution long-term nightmare is the best we can manage. >.>
And don't even get me started on car insurance.
