We can mute them, do our nails and run the video back if we miss the start gun.

Maybe it's because I never log in to YouTube, the better to keep their tracking crap off my PC, but I have never had a single issue with ad-blocking.

RE: Changes on YouTube
Use "ublock origin" if you are on a PC, and if that fails don't use Chrome as a browser for YouTube but something else, like Brave browser.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Actually, I am already using "ublock origin." I accessed YouTube this morning and didn't get the "no ad blockers allowed" message.  Huh

I use Chrome and Adblock Plus. No messages to disable, no problem playing vids.

I usually just wait for the five-second advert to end: ‘Your video will begin in 5…4…3…’

When it doesn't work it's because ublock didn't get updated, so you need to update it manually (right click on the ublock icon> options> filter list> purge all cache> update now). But if that doesn't work try again, but if it still doesn't work then they haven't updated it yet and you open the Brave browser until they update it.
