Even treue Heinrich was loyal only to a certain point and no inch further. Not that it really mattered at this point.

So Trump is planning 25% tariffs on all imported goods from China, Mexico and Canada on day one of his presidency.

How is this not an economic suicide?

The US imported $476 billion from Mexico last year - more than any other country. A 25 percent tariff on those imports would translate into a roughly $100 billion annual tax — or ~$1 trillion over the next decade.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Quote:Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that on the first day of his presidency he will charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the U.S. He added in a separate social-media post that he would impose an additional 10% tariff on all products that come into the U.S. from China, though he didn’t specify whether that levy would come on his first day in office. Such a tariff would come on top of existing tariffs the U.S. has already imposed on Chinese goods.

“This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!” Trump wrote, referencing his proposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

Funny, I didn't realize that Canadian illegal invasion and Canadian fentanyl were such pressing issues. Those sly Canadians.

I guess you have to give them credit for making people cut down on consumption. Back when ecologists were saying that people should use less oil, eat less meat, fly and drive less, the people responded “No, that’s so woke, communist, and big government.” It even reminds me of an anti-Al Gore “documentary” which I can’t remember the title, that ended with “Al Gore told us to turn off the lights at night [lights that people don’t use], but I say no. There is a girl right now that is studying hard on the night light that will one day make a movie like Avatar which everyone will see.” And now, these guys are telling people “You need to become poor so that billionaires can get richer, and we will also shut down the Department of Education;” and people from before are like “Perfection.”

Trump will be great for ecology, just like Kim Jong-un is great for ecology. After Trump puts tariffs on Canada and there is an immediate spike on Canadian oil, most of the people will be driving horse and buggy again—just like in NK.

Trump and Co are extremely open about how it is, instead arguing that their plan to cause economic pain will be good for the country in some unspecified long run, for novel values of the terms unfamiliar to intelligent people.

The thing about the whole thing is, Trump isn't proposing these tariffs as an economic measure. His goal isn't protectionism or inflation or bringing companies to the US or bettering wages or increasing employment.

His goal is punishment over issues that have bugger all to do with economics.

A fellow at the pub barked that Andrew Jackson funded the government on tariffs alone. I asked him when Jackson was President. He didn't know. I asked him how big was the federal budget when he did that. He didn't know. Neither did he know what a regressive tax is or how tariffs become one. But Trump is gonna make China and Mexico pay. umm humm.

Was this fellow also unaware that the tariff of 1828 very nearly caused a civil war (and would have done if Jackson hadn’t backed down)?
