A giant reproduction of a birthday message bearing Donald Trump’s name that was included in a collection of letters gifted to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein decades ago has been erected on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

The work is most recent installation by a group that identifies itself as “The Secret Handshake.” One half of the 10-foot-tall installation is a replica of the note bearing Trump’s name that was part of a collection of letters gifted to Epstein in the early 2000s. The note contained an outline of a naked woman and a “Donald” signature, concluding with the line: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

A Quinnipiac poll found 57 percent of voters disapprove of how ICE is enforcing immigration laws, a discontent that’s spilled into protests following the death of Renee Good in Minnesota. A CNN/SSRS poll released Friday found that 58 percent of Americans say Trump’s first year of his second term has been a “failure.”

Part of the dissatisfaction stems from promises that collapsed under scrutiny. DOGE, the administration’s high-profile government-slashing initiative, promised $2 trillion in savings. After shuttering USAID and laying off thousands of federal workers, Elon Musk acknowledged the effort saved about $160 million in five months — a fraction of the $2 trillion cut that was sold to voters on the campaign trail.

Then there’s the tariff chaos. Trump rolled out sweeping tariffs on nearly all U.S. trading partners on what he dubbed “Liberation Day.” Markets recoiled. Stocks lost nearly $3.1 trillion in value in a single day. Despite promises of a manufacturing boom, the final jobs report of 2025 showed hiring cooling across the economy.

And while politicians argue over optics, Americans are still paying more. Inflation is up 2.7 percent year-over-year. The typical household is spending $184 more per month than last year and $590 more each month than they did three years ago, according to Moody’s Analytics. Grocery prices are not down in any meaningful way. Energy, medical care, coffee and ground beef all cost more.

Health care? After a government shutdown on his watch last year, Trump finally unveiled his “great healthcare plan” — a framework so vague that top officials admitted the details were sparse.

Basic reason, having a critical mindset, being a little more open to intellectualism or philosophical thinking is such a great asset.
 
We in the Old-World believe in some core issues like “Universal healthcare, education and opportunities for each and every citizen”. I don’t want to impose any of this on Americans. But each and every society in this world needs to have strong individuals who are more able to realize their own potential and have greater powers of self-determination (including self-determination through politics).
 
D. Trump is currently increasing the military budget by 1/3rd (If I am correct). Why does the world’s already strongest nation need to increase its military budget? – Why is it doing that and at the same time turning its allies (which mostly happen to be the world’s remaining military superpowers) into rivals?
 
I know that the world in general is not in its optimal mental state right now. But there is so much that education, critical thinking and the right type of approach toward our everyday issues could do for all of us.
 
Social media and classical media is actually taking our time and is leading us to consume this or that product on the market. But that time is time that we could use to read some of the classical novels, discuss philosophy and other intellectual issues with our friends, learn more about the insights that science is offering to us every single day.
 
Since the 1990’s something is happening to our very intellect. And people like D. Trump (or the ones behind people like D. Trump) seem to be capitalizing on that.
 
See I am watching “Startalk” with Neil Degrasse Tyson from time to time. And I like most of the episode. But I can’t keep myself from thinking: “Why doesn’t he make a more –serious- program about astrophysics? – I’ve always found all levels of scientific issues to be deeply fascinating. So why does he need to hire a comedian and make the whole program more humorous? – I would still listen to him if he told me all those things without including any type of humor to his program.
 
So reason and human intelligence have this incredible potential in them. There is nothing that is “boring” or “uncool” about them. On the contrary, brainwashed masses who are unable to think for themselves is the thing that forced the American people to sacrifice lives in the past.
 
And the Old-World realizes the limits and dangers of some of these consumerist attitudes (It too does not perceive all of the threats but it is slowly getting there). I expect this D. Trump situation to strengthen similar approaches that are already present within the American society right now.
 
(If the guy doesn’t succeed in dismantling everything that makes the strength of American Society until that time that is)
