Much obliged. How did you know I prefer the company of dogs, in all cases to all persons up to, but not including grandchildren? Still you have to pause paws, no?

Welcome! I would love to discuss in another thread about any of your interests.
I did a quick search of Michael Levin, and I'm not inclined to his ideas, but that's for another thread.

Nor am I. That wasn't the article I was referring to. The one I was interested in was based on the work of Roger Penrose. Penrose asserted with considerable evidence in the early 90's consciousness was subject to the Quantum process. I'm not in 100% agreement but I can accept the premise for the sake of argument. I diverge at the rubbish about quantum entanglement before birth and interconnectedness with the universe.

Welcome aboard!
The consciousness thing is definitely of interest to me. This forum sparked the interest by responses I got to a thread I started when I was a newbie. It was the first time I was made aware of the fact that we have absolutely no mechanism to explain how consciousness emergences from the complex pattern of electro-chemical processes in the brain. I suspect we will need a major discovery of new physics before we can do anymore than speculate. Known physics seems completely unsuitable for accounting for the phenomena.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

One of few things that still interest me anymore. I made my peace with my moral and societal Nihilism long ago. A guilty pleasure and excuse to check in with a few thinkers in the society I eschew like an STD for the most part.
The problem is in defining it. Julian Jaynes comes pretty close but concedes it is indistinguishable from sentience qualitatively. If you can get trough the few hundred pages lol "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" is a great read. Wombler, Wrangham and Hare "Application of the Heterochrony Framework the the Study of Behavior and Cognition"
