Confirmation that there are children in the mass grave and that they were clubbed to death would reflect poorly on the goddam Mormon hierarchy.

Also, there hasn't been much about Mountain Meadows Massacre in the media for years, wouldn't hurt to revisit it and let another generation learn about the fucking Mormons.

Also, shaking up things a bit might dislodge some more records and details about the massacre, and Brigham Young's complicity in mass murder.

Not all the children were clubbed to death; the Mormons spared the under-8s (due to the age of accountability), though they did, IIRC, kill some of the under-8s whom they thought would blab about what happened. The survivors were, I think, sent to live with various Mormon families in the area. There are reports that many were not well cared for.

SALT LAKE CITY — The LDS Church confirmed Thursday that children living with same-sex parents or guardians will not be allowed membership in the church until reaching "legal age" and the individual "disavows the practice of same-gender cohabitation and marriage."

The criteria for membership also requires an individual to no longer be living with a parent "who has lived or currently lives in a same-gender cohabitation relationship or marriage." A mission president or a stake president must now request approval from the Office of the First Presidency to baptize and confirm, ordain, or recommend missionary service for an individual in these circumstances.
