“I especially enjoyed when Trump proudly crowed that the US had ‘eliminated’ (his word) Iran’s ability to launch missiles, a mere two hours before Iran hit Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Bnei Brak, and Petah Tikva with those…whaddya call ‘em…missiles.”
Me: -“Most media around the world is simply addicted to amplifications and exaggerations. To me it has the opposite effect. I’ll unfollow that news source if they keep selling everything with too much dramatic and shocking titles (and or pictures)” Him: “What does what you said have to do with what I said?”
Me:
- D. Trump loves exaggerations and big shows like yesterday evening for me and Afternoon for you. There was this successful F-15 Weapons Operator rescue mission with almost 100 aircrafts and as many drones involved. He and Pete Hegseth did not omit to turn it into a John Rambo movie of some sort
So when the President says “obliterated” it means “A lot of production facilities + missile depots were hit”. No one even knows exactly how many missiles and drones Iran has. And I would like to remind you of this:
- George W. Bush went into Iraq to put the oil reserves of this country under US and Western control. He made false claims about chemical or nuclear weapons being possessed by Iraq when Iraq didn’t even have civilian nuclear energy. But the trick worked and he got what he wanted. Back in those days the whole world (duly) criticized the whole operation.
So I’m not saying that this is a “good war”. But Iran:
1) Has an advanced missile and attack drones program. Look at all the places they are already hitting. How is the world economy supposed to function when the world’s largest oil, liquefied gas, fertilizer and other petro-chemical products producers need permission from a (yes) completely lunatic regime to export products and buy products from the rest of the world?
2) Iran has (or had) the capacity to build Nuclear weapons and to put the warhead on the top of an ICBM if it chooses to. The Mossad has spent decades assassinating people, sabotaging infrastructure etc. to avoid the possibility of an Iranian nuclear bomb. But it wasn’t able to delay this any longer. Hence operation Epic Fury was launched
This war is costing around 1 Billion dollars / days to Israel and perhaps even more to the US. So even D. Trump wouldn’t have started this war if it wasn’t absolutely necessary (That’s my opinion )
“Oh, great -- another jackwagon telling us "We'll be greeted as liberators'." How'd that work out the last time, you simpleton?”
- I like the article. No one is probably going to greet you as liberators. I don’t know how much of it can be linked to Iranian Propaganda but many left-wing people in the US and outside the US are starting to have very pro-Iranian viewpoints on this matter. Iranian trolls are working hard on social media (even in my country) trying to create pro-Iranian feelings especially among more left-wing people despite the fact that we hate political Islam and are more aligned with the US’s democratic values than this murderous and crazy regime.
So remember Guernica. This is the age of limitless lies and propaganda and distorted facts of all sorts. So if D. Trump and Netanyahu are (once) doing the right thing I’m not going to be opposed to them just because I don’t like the both of them
Paleophyte:
Quote:
“Iran needs to offer Trump a really embarassing out. Like paying reparations and issuing a formal apology. Especially damning if the reparations cost less than the ongoing war, which wouldn't be difficult.”
- They don’t have that kind of humility. Just like Russia with Eastern-Europe, they see themselves as the owner of the entire Middle-East with the US (and other Western actors) being intrusive elements.

I wasn't commenting on the article or the media, I was commenting on the idiot American politician who clearly has forgotten recent history. Pray follow along.

- I know. All that I am saying is that some of you need to get over this “Vietnam Complex”. That was a completely different era and a completely different world. This isn’t Afghanistan or Iraq either (Although I would agree that there might be some similarities I agree).
But to me this is comparable to the conflict in Ukraine more than any one of these conflicts. In fact if in a few weeks the Congress does not agree with Trump’s plan to continue the war (I am supposing that he will want to continue the war), Trump will declare victory and move out and Iran will also declare victory.
But there is still the reality on the ground. The US has not been bombed. US allies in the region suffered many losses. Some of their infrastructures will take years to rebuild before the trade that existed before the war can be reestablished. But the US + Israel took out almost everything in Iran:
Even if they get things like the right to export crude oil as they want + the right to tax all ships that want to cross the straits of hormuz, with such an idiotic system at the top, how long will it take for them to rebuild all that infrastructure.
Also: They are asking people to gather around energy facilities as human shields. That’s how they plan to stop F-22’s from hitting them. (They have armies of social media trolls too. But no one can figure how these 15 year old kids are supposed to be used in this war. Maybe some of them will be used as living shileds too )

Vietnam has absolutely nothing to do with my comment. Since you, like our esteemed politician, have the historical memory of a fruit-fly, apparently, I was referring to the build-up to Operation Iraqi Freedom, when the "greeted as liberators" trope was bandied about -- only to see us get bogged down with an insurgency that lasted a decade.
I really wish you'd think before you post -- but you know what the say, "if wishes were fishes, we'd all cast nets."

I’ve know a few (a half dozen or so) archaeologists in my life, and none of them had so weak a grasp on history as Leo, who claims to be one.

There are historians who don't know shit about history so there is nothing impossible in alleged archaeologist not getting it. Of course there is even simpler explanation and I imagine I don't have to spell it.
