US Strikes on Iran (Operation Epic Fury)

And when it seems like there is a solution it usually turns up to be one big joke like G.W. Bush’s “war on terror” that was imposed on “rogue countries” that was supposed to “look better when it’s over”.

The war on terror was devised as a way to remind the world that the united states was dangerous.  The only problem it's architects were looking to find a solution for was the one where they felt we weren't afforded the proper fear and respect we deserved - which would keep the terrorists away.

“Who owns the Strait of Hormuz?
The shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz are located primarily in Omani territorial waters, and partially in Iranian territorial waters, but they are governed by international maritime law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).”

And China is already using the ceasefire to send new air defenses to Iran:

So I’m also having new ideas in my mind:
- Yes Europe is largely dependent on the US for its defense in general and it truly needs the US nuclear deterrence (The nuclear deterrence of France and the UK together is still not comparable to the size of the Russian nuclear arsenal for instance).

But this partnership with Europe is actually something that provides many positive things to the US too. Europeans are older civilizations and many of them are older colonial powers. So a close partnership with them is very important for the US too. If D. Trump (and even G.W. Bush) had more and deeper exchanges of ideas adn coordination with their respective European partners there could be better approaches to the resolution of both the Iraqi and the Iranian problem.

Right now (and that’s my opinion) it is this disconnect that is creating this whole chaos in the region and in the rest of the world.

So America needs to be back again. I hope US voters will understand this by 2029 Smile

@Leonardo17

For (at least) the third time, Iran has not ratified UNCLOS, therefore they are not subject to it. But feel free to keep  Dead Horse.

Quote:Iran signed the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in 1982 but has not ratified it. As a signatory rather than a party, Iran is not formally bound by all UNCLOS provisions, particularly the transit passage regime in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to its selective adherence to maritime law.

Yesterday was the best day to wake up, today is the second best.  Still, it's going to take more than an election, assuming we continue to have meaningful elections, to bring back the homer simpson version of america, let alone something helpful and dependable on a global scale.

Donald Tusk (Prime Minister of Poland) did it in 2023. In Hungary Victor Orban is probably going to lose the elections and Peter Maygar is probably going to do similar things after wining the elections. Joe Biden also did it after the first mandate of D. Trump.

The only problem with all of this is that

1) It’s not so easy to bring everything back to where it should be after years or decades of populist rules.

2) The state machinery gets confused. So does the mind of ordinary people.

I see it as a step in our evolution. The average human (in his / her subconscious mind) is used to being ruled by kings or at least some ruling elite. Gradually and slowly we are learning to take our own destiny in our hands. This is not an easy task, but it’s happening. We simply need to let this happen while learning from our mistakes.

What exactly do you think tusk did? His party got less votes than fascists who were previously in power and so tusk governs only because they were too toxic to form a coalition. Yes, yes, pis don't rule now but they were defeated by their own idiocy not tusk genius. Additionally tusk shat on his promises - Poland is still some medieval shithole with women stripped of right to decide about their own body and same sex marriages aren't even a dream here. To add to this tusk is turning fascist as suspending right to asylum (and thus in effect suspending constitution which grants it) can hardly be called anything else when coupled with promises of ignoring ICJ arrest warrant for netanjahu were he to visit Poland or trying to criminalize helping refugees*.

Apparently, the solution to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz is for the US to close the Strait of Hormuz. Yeah, that’ll work.

At least Iran was letting some ships through (and charging a stiff price), Trump’s planning a total blockade. While it may weaken Iran, it’s also going to weaken the rest of the world.
