The hazard of faith schools

RE: The hazard of faith schools
Quite frankly religion should not be in schools full stop. You want to make a "Faith School" terrific!! Do it with your OWN FUNDS and don't ask for government help. End of story.

I dont like he idea of faith schools, There is a school in london hat teaches litteral creationism in the science lessons and PASSES the ofsted inspection.
teaching children incorrect information does not set them or society as a whole up well for the future.

My children have gone to a church of england school, when my then 8 year old son expressed the opinion that he hought the bible was not true the RE teacher rounded on him and shouted "well what are you doing at a church school then?" why should an 8 year old be expected to have firmed here beliefs?

I have not drummed atheism down their throats and indeed my youngest still believes in god (and santa)

Faith schools bad.

Ooh, ooh!! If that had happened to my children (and of course they went to the same school!) I would have been straight down there to have it out with the teacher in question. How dare they teach that the Bible is true and ridicule those who have the balls to think for themselves and question it!

Just because it is a 'church school' doesn't give them the right to indoctrinate. I hope you wrote a strongly worded letter!!

IIRC the Oasis Trust set up faith schools in the UK with help from the government - I think the Govt offered to go halves. The Govt was trying to get schools on the cheap in challenging areas that were otherwise failing.

I think that was the justification, but I dont like it. Schools should not favour one religion over another, it stifles a childs ability to think for themselves.

A Christian school in my mind would be one rooted in the faith and encouraging critical thinking. That is I don't see the link to pushing a single viewpoint in there. Christian principles don't hurt anywhere. Unless you think that immorality is a positive influence on impressionable youth.

Teaching a child that they will suffer eternal damnation for thinking the wrong way. I find that repulsive. Children shouldn't have to worry about things like that.

I recently lead a tour of the wolf sanctuary and breeding facility where I volunteer for 32 home schooled children. The leader of the group pulled me aside before we started and told me that he'd prefer it if I didn't try to "weasel evolution into your talk". I advised him that I couldn't alter reality to fit his paradigm. After a few clinched teeth comments he retired to the rear of the group and glowered at me for the rest of the event.
