True, but I believe he's mostly getting a negative attention.

For once in his life, G-C is right. Camping is an attention whore...but frankly, no more so than Herr Von Popenfuhrer or any other religious shitwit who wanders around telling people what "god" thinks. More even than "negative attention" though, Rayaan, what Camping is getting is ridicule and no one wants that.

Do you think it's really attention seeking or just delusion of self-worth? I think he's just another one of god's followers that thinks he's special.

There are many bible based frauds a self-serving, but rational huckster could prepetrate for the same publicity without exposing himself to possibility of such resounding falsification and ridicule. The fact that he chose this one suggests to me he is driven at least in part by either irrationality in evaluating the consequences of his own conduct, or delusions about the value of biblical numerology.

You're forgetting that Christians thrive on "persecution." So Camping and his followers think they're right when people ridicule them because it says in the bible that some people won't believe your bullshit.

Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

To one extent or another that's true of all believers, FNM. I mean...think of the ego it takes to concoct a 'god' who created the entire universe but they still think he gives a shit about them and their little problems.

Anybody catch this beautiful little nugget from the article:

Quote: Harold Camping:
'The Bible tells us that Christ has no pleasure in the death of the wicked. God is a very compassionate God and while the law of God demands that there has to be punishment it does not mean God is going to punish, and punish, and punish, and punish.’

Could there BE a more contradictory statement????

The Bible tells us that Christ has no pleasure in the death of the wicked ... AND YET he and and his "father" have killed MILLIONS!
God is very compassionate God ... AND YET he follows a law that he made HIMSELF to punish mankind!
It does not mean God is going to punish and punish and punish and punish ... ACTUALLY, isn't that EXACTLY what the Bible SAYS is going to happen!?!?!? Endless and eternal punishment!??

stupid fuck.

That is true, all believers think god is concerned with their problems which are trivial compared to the functions of the universe as a whole. This guy, however, thought that out of all the people that read the bible, he was the only one that understood the true message but what Christian doesn't. I think he just thought that god created him to help spread the word of the rapture. Sort of a chosen one of the chosen people. He thought he had interpreted the word of his god correctly and that god wanted him to spread the message, but like you said, the same could be said for all believers.

Can we possibly stop these people from reproducing? We don't need them eating our food when the world population starts to overload.

The problem is that people like Camping seem to think that they are the only ones who are particularly "tuned in" to what their god says, when it's not that they've interpreted anything in the bible correctly, but rather they are using particular bible passages to support what they want to believe in the first place. It's a kind of megalomaniacal behavior. I think it's what drives all cult leaders to not only assume that they're infallible, but to start thinking that they themselves are gods.
