C'mon guys! What are you doing?
Somehow I don't think whining and self-pity is going to be enough.
I just puked a little in my mouth.. After seeing the scars of my friends who have tried to kill themselves, I have a hard time looking at pictures of people hurting themselves like that. Bloody morons, I would say. Oh, and next time, please warn me, I was about to faint and my customers looked kind of funny at me
But back to the topic, yeah, you Americans have some weird ass religious people. We have some too, but fortunately Finns are not a very vocal people, worshipping and judging happens for most of the time in people's own homes. Sure, there are some idiots with megaphones now and then out preaching, but they can be easily ignored. Unfortunately there's an alarming trend amongst our politicians, they become increasingly "faithful", and I don't like it. Being delusional is not a good way to assure people that you're fit to take care of the country, but the stupid masses seem to fall for it..
I wish people in the USA would practice their superstitions and rituals at home but they aren't happy unless they are preaching to someone else. Christopher Hitchens put it perfectly in his debate with the crackpot Al Sharpton. When he compared religion to a favorite toy.

The belief in an eternal Hell to save souls from and a faith-based scheme of salvation makes the whole "keep-it-to-yourself" rule a non-starter.
There's a reason why I don't get Jews knocking on my door on Saturday morning asking me if I've "found Moses". They don't have either one.

On Saturday mornings, they're down at the local synagogue judging the family that provided that week's spread, and cooing over whoever's offspring are currently being bat or bar mitzvahed.
Of course, they could use Sundays instead. But there's nothing noble about the Jewish sentiment for NOT advertising your faith. You're supposed to advertise it and how great Judaism is by living it. All the crazy shit of the Chasidim is akin to the Mormons and their special underwear. "Look at me, I'm so elite, God tells me so and other people will wish to be me because of it!" Except Mormons realized that Jews WEREN'T taking over the world and figured they better get a hustle on. Rather like any group of people who make themselves some sort of social outcast with funny clothes and strange customs. They're special because they're unique. You should want to be them because their uniqueness makes them better than you.
I suppose I should have ended that with: There's nothing noble in any of this because the attitude is "if you don't want to be part of my special group, fuck you."
The one thing Christianity has going for it in regards to missionary work is they are at least told to "save" people. Jews just say "Nanny nanny boo boo!"

I thought we were supposed to want to be them because they are God's chosen people.

Chosen for what..exactly..lol. Looks to me like God's Chosen is one of those jobs you'd be better off dodging.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That's what supposedly makes them unique.

No one ever had an answer for that.
