Actually, I was doing just that while you were still in diapers. Master of Orion came out in 1993, I was playing it when it was new.
Also, I was playing Star Control before you were born.

Infact, it came out the year I was born. Two good things in a single year.... amazing really.
Good... but you clearly didn't stick with it for very long Whereas I've been playing it or pining for it since I was about 5

Not as good, not by a long shot.
And if you so much as mention Pax Imperia: I will kill a chicken in pity for you.

I am comfortable with armed government and unarmed populace. The bayonnets of the government must be overwhelmingly more powerful than the pitchforks of the populace, otherwise either the government can not wage foreign wars, or the population can gratuitously provoke foreign wars.
So the pitchforks of the populace is in the final analysis no barrier to tyranny so long as the tyranny has the unlimited fedelity of its bayonnets. What stand in the way of the tyranny is not the pitchforks, but the limited nature of the fedelity of the government's bayonnets.
So what is more likely to constrain the fedelity of the government's bayonnets? Is it the aversion to stabing unarmed civilian? or aversion to overwhelming an armed mob who, if not overwhelmed, could hurt the soldiers?

The latter two aren't important (we have hawaii and cali, after all), and the first is also a Cali product. We don't need florida.

Both wrong. I bet you're one of those stupid people that like formula play (ie: civ).

Chuck, do we see a lot of instances in history where soldiers are averse to stabbing the mob? Could consult the oracle of youtube.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Can we never move beyond an armed and deadly conflict? Are we not an advanced civilization with critical thinking skills? I would hope we could solve our issues with the facts and rationality. But alas, we are in the mess we are in now. Military's should be downsized worldwide and we need a worldwide peace effort. Instead of slaughtering countries, lets help them. Instead of spreading delusion spread education. Imagine if only 1/2 of the military budget was for space exploration/mass solar arrays/geothermal/fusion research... just imagine!
But on topic, yes I think the populace should be allowed to be armed... is that going to mean a shit if a civil war ever happens, I doubt it. What about thermal imaging? I guess caves are the best bet, but what about bunker busters? I hate to even fathom that the US military could turn on its own people. Isn't that sort of the opposite job of the military, if the people are unhappy the government is not doing it's job and so the government should change, not the people. For the people... by the people, ever heard of that?
Guns are something I wish they could de-invent.

There we go, now I have a person to focus on. That dude puts the revolver into a deep hole and I'll bury my assault rifle right next to it.

Rick Perry.. the dude even looks like Bush. Sounds like Bush, acts like Bush, how do people think we just won't be Bush. Yet the people did already vote in 2 Bushes and one twice. Fuck. Read my lips "I like man juice"
And that other crazy bitch. Holy shit. Her husband is obviously a homosexual. How do these creepy crazies get into positions like this, it sickens me to the core. To each their own I used to say... well not anymore, I vehemently defend my positions now to people and debate them to a pulp, yet their stubbornness is infallible. I can prove them wrong on all counts, yet their mind stays a glob of zit puss mixed with Budweiser.
