Social Functions

RE: Social Functions
No, there are not, to answer your original question.

People can seek therapy with counselors, not priests. People can get married in courthouses instead of churches. People can have their children kept healthy and safe, not through baptism/christening, but through hospitals, clinics, etc. I would be shocked if someone could find one thing religion provides that secularists aren't getting elsewhere.

I haven't. I can't. I might really, sincerely want to, might even keep it up for a day or so, but I know that after a while I won't be able to resist taking a peek.

I know it's weak, and I ought to be able to just walk away, but it's the temptation ... I can't resist it any more!

(Does that make any sense at all? Really not sure it does.)

I'm sure if you get down on your knees and pray to Jesus really hard he'll give you the strength to leave the forums...

Jesus? Jesus. I think I heard of him somewhere. Is he the one with the long beard who fancied older women? Or is he the one who gives tablets out by some mountain? He's not the one with loads of arms is he, that one's really scary. There are so many, I get confused. And when people tell me about them they never seem to actually give me proper contact details. So I kinda feel left out the loop. It's like, you know, when I was a kid loads of other kids were always talking about the great parties they been to, somehow I never used to hear about them 'til afterwards.

Another thing, they all seem to be geezers. There aren't any birds are there? I always find it much easier to talk with women, they are usually so much more understanding. Blokes usually get all macho and blustery, telling you to be a good chap and pull yourself together and stuff. Like if I could do that anyway why would I even be asking?

Someone earlier suggested going down the pub, but I don't drink any more (medical problems!) and anyway the one's I've been to always seem too blooming noisy, you can barely hear yourself think, let alone actually talk with anyone.

What about spiritual solace? I don't mean, like, ghosts and stuff. I mean things like how to cope with the fact that one is extremely small compared with all the big stuff out there, sorrow, how can I deal with the fact that one's daughter in law is a monster?, that it seems impossible to find friendship in the teeming city, that kinda stuff? How can I cope with my emotional issues? (all these hypothetical btw - mostly)

These kinda things are no good if you have to write a cheque at the end. Kinda knocks the socks off the deal. Seems to me anyway. Not that I give a toss. But lots of folk seem to want (need?) that kinda stuff.

Please ban me again and this time do it properly, so I can't get back.

Ta!

I did do it properly. One of the Admins undone it. Can't blame me for incompetence. Tongue
Besides, I quit being mod. Gonna need someone else to do it.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Which bit? Banning or quit being a mod? Banning is easy, not so much when you have to operate under guidelines.
