Our Purpose In Life

RE: Our Purpose In Life
You are all over the board aren't you? You're a definite keeper.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well I'd first propose a deeper purpose related question.

It's not so much "what is a humans purpose" because were a product of evolution but what is the reason cells combine to form everything we are?

Cells form life as we know it, not just us but all life, why have they been programmed to act so, imo they cannot decide to act as they do by themselves, just like a computer programme someone has to input the instructions.

If you go back down the chemical chain that makes cells these ingredients are deliberate imo, if you look at what atoms form, stars, rock, nebulae, hydrogen, carbon all the ingredients to form a universe and that are needed for life itself exist.

If the universe truly came from nothing and I mean with no force or power of intelligence then why isn't space empty? or why does it not just have planets formed of rock? why all this element after element that forms what we know ..... which just so happens to be what's needed for any of what we have to exist.

Things could have been a hell of lot simpler.

Have they been programmed? You have evidence for this? Are you sure that you have an accurate view of the order or place of things? Was life the aim of the universe or a product of it? Do you have evidence that would suggest the former?

Ok when people ask these questions I feel we confuse ourselves by not asking the right ones.

You say "Have they been programmed" that is a question no one can prove, but what can be proved is that there are enough elements to create everything that is needed, why and how is that so?

You say "Was life the aim of the universe or a product of it?" my answer would be it doesn't matter, whether it was either is not the point, the point is that it "can" produce life and that fact alone means there is more to the story.

As I said the universe has no given right to produce anything if it's all just empty matter, but it does, to me it's not so much that it's magical but more alien like in wonder.

The Universe to me "fact" operates in an intelligent fashion, it recycles itself, has all the right properties for creation and destruction, has the right properties for life ..... how anyone can think this is possible from nothing is beyond me.

Once again I must be clear before you give it the Goddidit speech, what is my idea of God? it's definitely not the traditional version you all think it means.

You feel confident that this is unknowable when I ask the question, but respond with a claim to knowledge about a designer, convenient.

What other elements would life have formed from, except those which were present?

I think it would very much matter as it's part of the crux of the question to begin with. Toasters fly, but are they proof of an aerospace engineer?

The universe is full of wonder, agreed.

What other properties would the universe have? If it had other properties do you feel that life (in any form) would be impossible?

Finally, what evidence do you have for your deity in whatever form you believe in.

(the only people who believe that the universe was poofed into existence from nothing are believers in gods Deist, this has been pointed out to you over and over and over. It's tedious)

RE: Our Purpose In Life
So we're working our way through page seven on a question that has been debated since antiquity. I'm not sure we can really do the deep philosophical issues involved in the debate the justice they deserve.

The question in the OP and the thread title uses the term 'Our', lumping the entire species together as if they should have some common goal. One has to point out (as has been done by others) that 'purpose' as viewed by the individual is an inherently subjective thing and differs from one to another. For one individual to say that the basic biological drive to procreate is somehow 'our' primary motivation in life is absurd and shows a lack of understanding of the basic human condition, no offence intended of course.

We could talk about all the different 'purposes' assigned to life; service of the creator, service of the species and rational self interest etc . . . as well as philosophies which identify no objective purpose. In all this though we will come against the same stumbling block thinkers have been falling over since the debate began. Everyone sees it a different way, being in the realm of each individuals consciousness and intelect its subject to the liberty of thought that defines our species.

There is no purpose to life. It is what it is, no more, no less. A 'lucky' accident?

Why would there be any purpose? Would not that suggest then that life was created with a plan?
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.
-- Homer Simpson

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.
-- Superintendent Chalmers

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.
-- Ned Flanders

Once something's been approved by the government, it's no longer immoral.

You do not need to subscribe to a God's plan. If God had a plan he would not give it to the Christians with their Sodom a Gomorrah record.

By a strong work ethic, you increase your luck to enable yourself to create a purpose in life.
