Top Seven Ways Christianity is Debunked By the Sciences

Lets recap...

In post #2, despite the fact that the thread title, the OP and the blog are specifically about the Christian god, you reply that the blog doesn't disprove a god, only the Abrahamic god.

Well, duh.

Was this one of your examples of being Socratic?

Then in post #6 you post this little gem. "Then you accept you have no evidence to disprove the existence of God(s) in general?".

This sounds much more like failed logic to me than being Socratic.
But hey, that could just be me.

Then this in post #9, "I couldn't possibly do that. In fact it's quite probable Zeus is sitting on mount Olympus watching us right now".

So wait, now you understand why your post in #6 fails? At least you're a fast learner.

Then this in post #16, "Picking holes in the bible is child's play, which is why this forum is focused on bashing Christians and their 'God'."

Maybe it's focused on Christianity because those are the majority of theists that post here? Just guessing....

I believe we are all waiting for your brilliant use of Socratic method.

Until then, it sure looks more like trollish behavior.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Just a troll....and probably one who has been banned before.

Wrong thread.
If jesuslovesyou/stucky can still read this, or has stopped trolling. Google, Russells teapot, and you too will understand why the burden of proof lies at your feet. I'm not sure what definition of "God" John Loftus is using in his arguments. It certainly is not the one I find in Merriam-Webster's online dictionary:

Definition of GOD
1 capitalized : the supreme or ultimate reality:.....

If one does not respect the meanings of the words of the language it becomes very difficult - if not impossible - to communicate any meaning whatsoever with it. Presumably, Mr. Loftus is not trying to say that there is no such thing as Ultimate Reality - or is he? Ultimate Reality is what the entire enterprise of science is about seeking, is it not? So how can it be possible that science will ever be in opposition to this Ultimate Reality - God?

One can argue intelligently about the Nature of Ultimate Reality. But to claim that it does not exist at all is simply absurd. And whilst that is a view one might take on existence, absurdism has nothing whatsoever to do with science.

What an amusing definition for the word god. Removes all of the bullshit and leaves something that is decidedly not a god.

NVM, I see that you snipped the rest.

"capitalized : the supreme or ultimate reality: as
a : the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe
b Christian Science : the incorporeal divine Principle ruling over all as eternal Spirit : infinite Mind
2
: a being or object believed to have more than natural attributes and powers and to require human worship; specifically : one controlling a particular aspect or part of reality
3
: a person or thing of supreme value
4
: a powerful ruler"

If one does not respect the spirit of full disclosure it becomes very difficult to argue for one's integrity.

In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Why do you need others to help you decide on such a serious matter? And anyway, the fact that something has not been proven to your satisfaction does not mean it is not true, does it? The American continent, for instance, existed long before it was known about in Europe. To have asserted that it didn't exist because there was no evidence about it a millennium ago would have been absurd, would it not?

If you're going to deny the existence of everything until it is proven to your satisfaction and a majority of scientists you approve of are also convinced, would you not simply be a hindrance to scientific discovery? Shouldn't your task be to go out and find evidence yourself - conclusive evidence - and not wait for others to do that job for you - making life as difficult for them as possible in the meantime.

Before it was discovered, it didn't exist. Not to Europeans. Anyone who went about at great length to describe some undiscovered continent in detail would have been accurately labeled a liar, or batshit crazy.

What is it, btw, that you feel the majority of scientists are convinced of, out of morbid curiosity?

I don't follow you. Are you saying that "God" - as distinct from "god" - is not defined as "Ultimate Reality" by the dictionary? Without honesty, one can never have clarity.

See the as and then rows A and B? They're important. Snipping them and then forming some sort of quasi argument or criticism based on your edit, is a "less than accurate representation of the truth".

Right. What you're indicating is that you're a solipsist: You think what you don't know abut doesn't exist. That is contrary to science - comprehensively.
