You are of course right. Good people can be found anywhere, even in the Vatican
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Quote:but too often they want to act like being a Christian is a new trick their guy invented in the 16th century.
Actually, the nutty fundie shitheads we have infesting the trailer parks of America fail to understand that their version of being a xtian is a trick invented in the 18th century and refined into the beginning of the 20th.

This was high-larious to me when I was Catholic. Protestants were always telling me that I wasn't a Christian. Glad to be rid of that.

At least they do something right in our schools then. "Remember kids, we spawned from the Catholic church, but decided to left, because they have too many sticks up their butt"

Are you sure?
Isn't the Greek Orthodox Church part of/ an offshoot from the Byzantine church in Constantinople?
I was under the impression the schism goes back to the First Council Of Nicea, (325 ce)when the Canon was set and Rome (and the Pope of Rome) was declared the head of Christianity. The Christians of Constantinople did not (and do not) use exactly the same canon and did not (and do not) recognise the Pope as head of the Church. (??)
Or have I gone and gotten all confused again?

http://www.middle-ages.org.uk/the-great-schism.htm
Quote:The Great Schism of 1054 was the split between the Eastern and Western Christian Churches. In 1054, relations between the Greek speaking Eastern of the Byzantine empire and the Latin speaking Western traditions within the Christian Church reached a terminal crisis. This crisis led to the separation between the Eastern and Western churches and is referred to as the Great Schism of 1054. The Christian Church split along doctrinal, theological, linguistic, political, and geographic lines. The split, the Great Schism of 1054, led to the development of the modern Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.

Many of you have valid and worthy posts regarding Catholicism/Christianity. I just can't get bogged down on one point as we are already all over the damn map in that thread. As much as I would like to delve into all of the topics we are touching on in that thread - I'm trying to significantly cut it back.
I will point out to Frodo, that Lucent did indeed write that it is his assertion that probably many Catholics are not saved .... but as I said I just didn't have the time to get into it.
There's really dozens of threads in that damn thing, and next time I'll limit it to ONE topic. (lesson learned)
