Religion is a Menace

RE: Religion is a Menace
As usual, G-C you overlook the obvious when it suits your particular bias.

Quote:Many evangelical Christian groups, which put a stronger emphasis on winning new converts, believe relief can be packaged with religion as long as immediate needs are addressed first. After all, they say, this is when people are asking life's deepest questions.

Starving people need food....they don't need fucking jesus.

RE: Religion is a Menace
G-C and the usual christian bullcrap fling.

In reality Christian churches get into cohoots with crooked judges to force drug offenders and alcohol offenders into the religious program. This way they can suck not only tax money into their church, but force people to [ay them fines for their services.. in the end, the judge usually has a part ownership in the "rehab program" so he makes profit everytime he swings his gavel down.

Because of money and power hunger, Christian churches share the responsibility for this highly destructive war on drugs.

Also, Christian churches have now gained the ability to leech on public tax funds and still keep their religious identity and beliefs. this means they can take money from gays and atheists and then turn around and legally discriminate againts them. And the churches LOVE discrimination, as they fought HARD to ensure they had the governments blessing to discriminate against who ever they wanted. Of course, the churches are used to lying to the public, so they dont call it "right to discriminate", but instead call it "faith intact"...because we all know that being able to treat gays like scum is all what christian faith is all about.

I could keep going..but I know G-C.. it goes in one ear and out the other and then he will come back and ramble about BS.

..and then he tells us to shut up so him and his fellow tax leeches can suck more of our money from us and ruin our society.

G-C, if Christians really want to impress people with their deeds, they need to help people without bringing up Christian beliefs at all. Otherwise you are just using it as an excuse to spread your religion and helping them is merely a by-product. Not everyone needs Jesus to get better, but you feel it's okay to push him anyway. Your deeds are less impressive when you're proselytizing at the same time.

Which probably has more to do with their sheer numbers than anything else.
That will never hold up in court...

Worship the lawd and we will give you this bowl of rice. Stop giving your money to crack dealers and give it to us. Humanitarian work my ass. It is all smoke and mirrors to propagate their bullshit to people who need help, and hope, not some future repayment by yahweh in space... Er heaven.
"In our youth, we lacked the maturity, the decency to create gods better than ourselves so that we might have something to aspire to. Instead we are left with a host of deities who were violent, narcissistic, vengeful bullies who reflected our own values. Our gods could have been anything we could imagine, and all we were capable of manifesting were gods who shared the worst of our natures."-Me

"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men." – Francis Bacon

Religion is one thing that is part of the human condition and part of human society, whether or not a given individual accepts or rejects it.

Humanity is, indeed, the menace. Religion is probably humans most successful invention in order to increase harm, damage, and menace to ourselves and other things (animals, plants, perhaps even the planet itsself)

If you were to actually look into what christians do for others you would be surprized, I work with young people and try and help them through their every day problems to drug addiction and ask for nothing in return. Yes I do use my christian belief in helping them and the reason I do is I see the success of christian principles. I personally know of two drug rehab programs that are a year long and totally free and have the best results of any programs going. The people that attend are given a bus ticket back home, they are free to leave when ever they want. Disaster relief by christians is outstanding and no one is paid a penny in helping those in need and no we do not use this to have an opportunity to evangelize, we do it because people need help, this is the teachings of Christ. I could go on and on but I think you see what I'm saying. You should stop trying to demonize christians and see the good that we do. By the way check this out for your self, the christian church spends more money helping others than we would ever pay in taxes, so take your choice pay more taxes for the goverment to help others or get off our backs and let us help others without having to listen to your rants.

So? I teach literacy. I don't use my atheistic nonbelief to do that. Does that make it less worthwhile?

During Hurricane Katrina, the first people on the scene giving aid was the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation - a secular organization.

I've read numerous things on drug and alcohol rehabilitation. I've found that the religious-based programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous, have a lower success rate than secular programs, or even lower than someone just deciding to stop drinking or using drugs.

Christianity is the #1 destroyer of families in rural areas of India with Christian missionaries who give food, medicine, schooling, community help (e.g., building a safe water supply). It's "free" but has a price: You must give up your traditional or Hindu ways, and moreover, avoid anyone who is not Christian because they might tempt you to renounce our newfound Christianity and go back to the religion (or lack of it) in your family. I've heard this from numerous people who came from different areas.

There are secular relief organizations, who give food, medicine, schooling, community development help. Some are connected with a government, like the Peace Corps, and others are nongovernmental, such as Doctors Without Borders.

If you don't want to hear (read) my rants against Christians, you might want to refrain from reading atheist boards. In the mean time, keep your superstitions out of schools, out of science, and out of my pocketbook. If you want your Church, YOU pay for it.

We do pay for it and without your help, blindness of the mind and anger toward christians must be a requirement to be atheist. You guys spout that christians only do things for money and never for love, your inability to see the truth always astounds me, you judge the many by the few yet you do not want that done to you. So practice what you preach. By the way christian schools do not put out illiterate children, so much for the secular schools, and I think that what you do for those who can not read is a wonderful thing, keep up the good work BethK. To compare what you do to what I do is like comparing apples to oranges both are good things in their own ways and each is as important as the other. No one stands higher than another when it comes to helping people, there is an exception to this, those who help others for attention do not have a leg to stand on, they do not truly have the need of others as their interest.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

For fiscal year 2005, more than $2.2 billion in competitive social service grants were awarded to faith-based organizations. Between fiscal years 2003 and 2005, the total dollar amount of all grants awarded to FBOs increased by 21 percent (GAO 2006:43). The majority of these grants were distributed through state agencies to local organizations in the form of formula grants (GAO 2006:17).

In other words..MY tax money is going to support YOUR church.

Leave my tax money alone, and let your church compete with other religious ideas WITHOUT the aid of my dime.
