Dear Theist: Do Your Job or Find Another
October 12, 2011 at 4:43 pm
(This post was last modified: October 12, 2011 at 4:45 pm by Phaedra.)
I found this article on the blog Skepchick.
"You know, I get that it’s a tough economy out there. Lots of people are taking jobs that aren’t necessarily optimal, like working at a fast food joint, cooking meth, or making YouTube videos. And not everyone is able to choose a job that is 100% in line with his or her morals, like a vegetarian flipping burgers, an ex-DEA agent cooking meth, or a normal human being making YouTube videos.
Or like a fundamentalist Christian who is a town clerk in New York, where same-sex marriage was recently made legal.
That’s right, there are people in New York who are refusing to approve the marriage licenses of same-sex couples because of “religious freedom.” Here’s one now!"

That will never hold up in court...

Help Rose Protect Her Religious Freedom to limit the freedom and rights of others.
Archeologists near mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a
missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon dated in
Bonn. If genuine it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to
read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are
fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely
coincidental." - Newsreader in 'Red Dwarf 2: Better Than Life'

I hope that shitty bitch does lose her job. You can't just refuse to process a marriage license because you personally don't approve of the matching genitalia of the happy couple in a state where it's legal for them to marry. That's their right now.
I wonder if she thinks that her fucked up god is going to pay to feed her goats when she is fired for insubordination...

If you have a contract of employment
and within that contract it is specifically
stated that you have to perform a certain
function and you persistently refuse to do so
then your employer has the legitimate right to
sack you. For you can not decide which aspects
of your job you wish to do, and which you do not
Therefore having a moral objection does not in any
way invalidate your legal obligation to doing your job
But if it is possible to reach a compromise between the
employer and employee that does not result in the latter
being sacked then am all in favour of that. But must under
stand that the letter of the law is more important here than
than your conscience. If you genuinely cannot do the job then
you need to seek alternative employment. How ever I also fully
believe every thing should be done before such a situation occurs
This is not giving in rather doing everything possible to avoid making
someone jobless. Renegotiate the contract if necessary but then firmly
stick to it once the ink is dry. No perpetual tinkering with it. Just do the job

Their slogan is wrong. As no one is actually
threathening their religious freedom. But what
is being threatened though is their job. There is
freedom of religion as guaranteed under the First
Amendment but that how ever does not extend to re
interpreting their contrasct of employment to the point
that they will only perform those aspects of it which are
acceptable and disregarding the rest whatever the reason
