Dear Theist: Do Your Job or Find Another
#41
RE: Dear Theist: Do Your Job or Find Another
I agree with Lucent up to a point, from the applicants point of view if there is someone else who isn't a complete douche to put a stamp on a piece of paper then just turn to that other person. But it is increasing the workload to coworkers, and I can also imagine that they are not very happy about that. If there is a supervisor in this facility, that supervisor could re-assign the refusing employee to duties not pertaining marriage licenses.
Best regards,

Her freedom of religion is only to follow whatever fairtale she chooses.

It does not allow her to impose it on others, which is what she is doing here.

I notice you didn't respond to my question eitherThinking

Her religious freedom is protected under law in the work place. It allows her to be reasonably accomodated:

As for your example, I wouldn't sincerely care if anyone denied me service because of a deeply held religious belief. I would simply find service elsewhere.

Like fuck you would, you'd be up on your christian high horse hollering religious persecution for the whole world to hear, even more so if it was a evil atheist that refused you service.

I am practically numb to such treatment, it doesn't bother me. I do find some of it annoying, but not to the point that I would try to get someone in trouble or make a federal case out of it.

What a laughable crock of shit. If I refused to stamp your marriage certificate because your a Christian nutjob and I'm a atheist who says your beliefs are evil, you'd kick up a stink.

Perhaps that is how you would act. If I had no other alternative I would be forced to go to your superior but I am not interested in creating more drama in the world than is absolutely necessary.

Well then you're a sucker. If you'd let someone fuck up your marriage, health or any other aspect of your life because of their religious views, you're a sap. So you carry on saying 'yes sir' and hoping that the people in charge of those parts of your life pray to the same imaginary prick you do, and in the meantime let the people with brains take care of it so that it never comes up in the first place.

It also works the other way around of course.

As some might know, Matt Dillahunty and Beth Preswood of ACA/Atheist Experience fame, are getting married pretty soon. Beth Preswood asked all the catering, florists, and various other shops involved if they had a problem with serving for a gay wedding. Only those indicating not to have a problem with that got the job.

Nope. Luckily, that has no bearing on the validity of my point.

They are not at all contradictory and your language is getting increasingly hyperbolic. I said in the first statement that I didn't take such treatment terribly personally, and I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble over such treatment..my second statement said, that I would not wish to do anything, but if I had no alternative, because there was no other alternative for service, then my hand would be forced. I will also add that the service would need to be very important for me to take that step.
