Is not the Christianity Forum for the purpose of discussing things pertaining to Christianity, as silly as these things may seem? There are many sub forums on here that I never bother with, because I'm not interested in those areas. Undecided

Stimbo- I'll check all your findings. Thanks for the update. Wink

Yes, of course that's what it's for. It's for discussion of matters relating to Christianity. So you've posted something about it, and everyone else is telling you why it's nonsense. What's the problem? If you find it 'exciting', great. We find it 'ludicrous', and are explaining why.

The 'star' was just a sign. Stars or constellations don't exert influence over us, as astrology claims, so mentioning astrology in connection with this is just unneccessary as I'm sure you know.

The 'star' was real. Thank you Nasa for confirming it. Tongue

As usual, what any given person may believe is not necessarily an accurate representation of reality. A year is a big deal. We have no idea when (or even if) jesus was ever born. Apparently your star doesn't have quite the predictive power you imagine it does, since there's still no consensus on this.

A "sign", you mean like Leo or Scorpio..hangs head. Mentioning astrology is perfectly within the realm of the discussion, since that's exactly what we're talking about here. Those that wrote the OT believed in astrology (as they made plainly clear in genesis) and those that wrote the NT still held that belief. Magical demi-god kings deserve magical herald stars.

Stars are real, consider that confirmed...lol.

Are you trying to suggest that Atheist not be allowed to discuss topics on the christianity thread on this forum...that it be christian only?

That would be one slow forum, in terms of both activity and the intelligence of the participants.

No, she didn't imply that. She's implying I don't understand the purpose of a discussion forum.

I thought that a topic which deals with a real astronomical event, would be of interest to some people on here. I know that any 'religious' significance to such an event is a laughable matter amoungst athesits and non Christians. I get that. I am trying to demonstrate that the reference to a star in the Bible, that sounded far fetched and mythical, could well be explained by science and therefore, this 'star' has a plausible explanation, even if it has NO religious significance to most people on here. What I can't hack any more, is people coming onto this thread to tell me how silly I am, people who probably aren't one bit interested in this thread or what it is about. It's just an excuse to vent more hostility toward the gullible Christian. When you dread coming on here to find more hosility, and your stomach is churning, then I think it's probably time for you to call it a day. I'm too sensitive a person to come up against such negativity all the time. I'm messaging Stimbo regarding his findings, and may take a week or two to check his stuff out. I'll reply to Stimbo on here, once I've determined the low down on this astronomical event, just in case anyone is interested to know more about this and then I'll call it a day.

Except that you have to invent dates, and even after doing that it has been pointed out that on any given date, any given part of the night sky, there is going to be a star. There are a few of them up there. It's not even an issue of athiests/christians. This shouldn't be convincing or supportive even to christians.

Extracting all of the christianity from this entire thread..

"Hey guys, just so happens there was a star in the night sky at or around the big BC/AD changeover"

Yes, there were several, congratulations.

Quote:So basically, Jupiter did indeed perform the prescribed manoeuvre in the period 3-2 BCE.

We can walk out on a clear night and see Jupiter now.

There it is...right over that guy's house...and the Moon too.

Clear as day, isn't it?

Yep...if I were standing in my doorway in Babylon and looked out and saw Jupiter dancing in the sky the first fucking thing I'd think of is "there's a STAR hanging over Bethlehem!"

Just preposterous nonsense.
