That article is full of fail. I'll write a full rebuttal later when I have more time.
facebook is great, fuck you whingers
I think that Facebook, in terms of being "good or bad", is relative to the person being asked.
I have spent a large amount of time and effort to start my life over in a different country, culture, language and such, not to forget placing 6 timezones between the people involved in my "community of my hometown". Why in the name of all that is logical would I wish to place my location and life in the internet where these people, who I have finally managed to dust off my shoes, would have easy access to my current personal enjoyment of life? In my case it would be similar to pissing into a gail force wind. A shower I can certainly do without! Others may be of another opinion here, but hey... I've lived quite fine without such a social network and will continue to live without it. Then again, I have a sort of social network within a few forums like this one. Most of my social contact are real rather than virtual. Fact is... if one were to "google" my name (real name), you' be hard pressed to find much about me there, in spite of my (short) career as a professional cyclist, professional trainer, part time model and published author. I like the quite, some don't... Meow! GREG

The absence of all empirical evidence for the necessity of intuitive X existing is evidence against the necessary empirical existence of intuitive X - MoS (variation of 180proof) Athesim is not a system of belief, but rather a single answer to a single question. It is the designation applied by theists to those who do not share their assumption that a god/deity exists. - MoS I am not one to attribute godlike qualities to things that I am unable to understand. I may never be in the position to understand certain things, but I am not about to create an anthropomorphic deity out of my short-commings. It's just I see Facebook taking over everything. FB now allows you to tag people, so before I knew it, I was being tagged all over the place. Why the fuck would I want people to know that? Facebook itself can be a great thing, I think the people use use it are the morons. I have a 190 friends, all people I go to college with or family. It's great for people like me. But when people add me and post bullshit about their life every 5 minutes, you get the boot. Kind of off topic of the OP I know, but I found the article interesting.

I'm a bookfacer all the way! My baby mama made one for our son so we could record his entire life on it, and share things and such. I don't post very much, but I love bubble witch, and who wants to be a millionaire. My ex boyfriend and I compete every week to get/maintain the highest score... so it's almost like we're still together. I just don't have to sit there and listen to him bitch.

Oh no my privacy! Stop shrieking like a little girl.
When you walk down the street, you're on camera. When you're at work, you're on camera. Various organisations are able to track when you're on the internet, what sites you're visiting, when you're on the phone and to whom, when you're watching TV and what you're watching, the purchases you're making, how much you spend on everything you spend money on, if you're in or out of the country and on and on ad infinitum. So if someone's interested enough in me posting videos of Simpsons clips to my mate's walls, or me saying 'Woohoo great weekend coming up' or whatever, I say have at it. If you don't want the Illuminati checking out the private elements of your life, know what you could do? Not put private elements of your life on Facebook. Fucking hell.
I almost went, "You're paranoid if you think you are on camera all the time." then I remembered where you live. Poor sod.
If I don't get on Facebook, then where will I go to read people preaching all the time?
Seriously, Facebook is only as dangerous as you let it be. Think of it as a bulletin board where anything you put on it can be seen by everyone in public. I don't share much of my information for this very reason. Never mention your vacation on Facebook until you return home. Just use common sense and you'll be OK.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

When I go away I leave my attack grandparents home and send someone to check on them every now and then. I pretty much just use common sense on facebook. One thing I almost forgot about once was the little chat thing at the bottom of web articles. I almost posted a whole bunch of nasty comments in response to an article on an AFA website. Luckily, I realized I still have my job (working at a church) on my profile and decided it's not worth losing it. |
