Or Rev, they could go the route of good ole Statler Waldorf and claim that all of these myths are somehow ripping off their own, lol.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Then they are arguing that these other myths are also, at least partially, factual.

Ultimately it all comes down to "special pleading." All other gods are phony idols but THEIR GOD is the real deal.

If the more improbable the story means the more true it's likely to be, then Scientology must be the one true religion.

LOL, nah. Aliens dictator, a-bombs, and spaceships that look suspiciously like DC-9's are infinitely more probable than ghosts and magic. You know, Battlefield Earth is pretty much a rehash of scientology come to think of it. The man cashed in twice on the same narrative by changing the names of the characters. Brilliant.

Please, please tell me you didn't waste hours of your life reading that garbage. Lie if you have to - and if you can't, at least tell me you did it just for the lulz.

I'm a big sci-fi buff, even bad sci-fi. It's a long book, lol. Read it in my early teens. Not bad as YA sci fi.

More probable in the sense of "so improbable it has to be probable", or more probable in the sense of "more probable it has to be less probable"?

More probable only in the sense that magic and ghosts are not involved (until we get to the thetans bit, at which point, essentially the same, joining a religion to remove an evil force that inhabits your body). Still utterly fucking retarded. That's the trouble with probability when it comes to the absurd. It's often seen as a door through which any old bullshit gets to make an entrance into reality.

I thought that the thetans were the spirits of dead aliens that infect our brains? That's pretty far out there. Not human ghosts, but alien ghosts. So you not only have to believe that humans have souls, but you have to believe in aliens and that they, too, have souls.
