If evolution threatens creationism, then of course it will make Christians to counter it.
Now, to those Christians who DO ACCEPT evolution- I'm asking: How do you reconcile evolution with the whole concept that God created man in his own image, while evolution says that man is a relative of chimpanzees?

We believe Genesis was not meant to be taken literally. Yes, we believe God is still behind all of creation, but not in the way that is depicted in the OT. He creates the concept and allows nature to take its coarse, knowing what will happen.  Shy

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Okay, so in that case- how can you be sure that other parts of the bible are to be taken literally? What are the rules to determine what is literal and what is metaphorical?

After billions of years of life (evolution) on this planet, we were the ones created in god's image. YES!!

Good question. I supposed they put it in the bible, because it isn’t true. Why else? Instead of saying, “god set space and time in motion” (in genesis). God allowed false information to get in, and his followers are supposed to know not to believe in it, even though it is the word of god, and they should be believing every word of it. They must be given the wisdom to cherry-pick, but I think most christians cherry-pick different parts, so they’re all actually missing the wisdom from god part too.
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

Following!

Yep, me, too.

For those who don't know, the Catholic Church has NO problem with evolution. After all, what's would have prevented God from starting the chain of evolution and letting it play out?

Catholic Church and evolution

Abbot Gregor Mendel (1822-84), Augustinian friar and founder of genetics. Together with Darwin, he laid the groundwork for the study of life sciences in the twentieth century.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

159. Faith and science: "... methodical research in all branches of knowledge, provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are." (Vatican II GS 36:1)

283. The question about the origins of the world and of man has been the object of many scientific studies which have splendidly enriched our knowledge of the age and dimensions of the cosmos, the development of life-forms and the appearance of man. These discoveries invite us to even greater admiration for the greatness of the Creator, prompting us to give him thanks for all his works and for the understanding and wisdom he gives to scholars and researchers....
284. The great interest accorded to these studies is strongly stimulated by a question of another order, which goes beyond the proper domain of the natural sciences. It is not only a question of knowing when and how the universe arose physically, or when man appeared, but rather of discovering the meaning of such an origin....

Is god still creating today? Maybe so. To punish all the sexual sinners, creation of antibiotic resistant STD's?

It seems that this whole evolution stuff is a matter a war between theists and atheists, and once theists accept evolution- the war is over, and all are friends  Big Grin

Or Christians embrace evolution because they accept that an intelligent designer has been at work by means of evolution.

Quote:Now, to those Christians who DO ACCEPT evolution- I'm asking: How do you reconcile evolution with the whole concept that God created man in his own image, while evolution says that man is a relative of chimpanzees?

Are these things mutually exclusive? Can we not be physically descended from apes and yet endowed with a nature that is more akin the God's than to a mere animal's?

Before the NT scriptures were written and the canon of the Bible finalized, God established an infallible Church which He continues to guide by His Holy Spirit.

That Church studies these things very, very carefully.
