How honest should parents be?
RE: How honest should parents be?
It always strikes me as typical, those who decide they don't want to talk about the subjects that they tried so hard to backtrack on before. It's like being caught with your pants down, in a rather compromising situation and now you're doing your best to get out of it. Except that you can't because we have pages and pages in this thread alone, where the idiot is strong in that one. Better yet, this isn't the only thread affected!
The pattern is there, as much as the stupidity that seemingly always follows. Pity the young and ignorant have such a refusal to learn from those who've experienced parenthood, you know, by actually HAVING children.

Clearly not.

I joined pages ago and see myself siding with whom everyone hates.

Not having children is no reason that individual cannot give advice.

Basically Thena stated that she warned her children about wandering off with strangers and so on by explaining what happens to children who go missing without being too graphic about it.

EP then stated that Thena probably shouldn't have done this because it might be too graphic for them, then he stated that because Thena said she explained it in a way that was not too graphic he thought that this means she did in fact explain it in a way that was too graphic.

He then said people shouldn't have children if they can't afford to keep children in a safe environment.

To which I asked what does a safe environment have to do with the topic of kidnappers or child molesters in general, since they can be anywhere public.

I also asked why he would think that Thena saying she explained this to her children in a not too graphic way might mean to him that she explained it in a way that was too graphic, taking into consideration that he wasn't there and it's a totally baseless assumption of his and he only knows about the situation because Thena explained it to him and in the way she explained it to him she explicitly said she told them in a non graphic way.

His answer to both my questions was that I wouldn't understand and that I lack nuance.

I can also guarantee my posts lack any sort of personal insult.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

No. Do your own work and read the thread, you know, like everyone else posting here has done. It's called accountability.

Now we get to the root of the problem. If you devoted half the time you do on processing feelings to thinking you would be in a far better position to handle the risks involved in raising a child.

Quite simply, go fuck yourself. Until you actually have kids, you're opinion means shit!

He thinks that telling your children the truth about the dangers of trusting adult strangers is bad parenting.

Spouting some stupid statistics about how your child isn't likely to be kidnapped. Seriously? Teaching your children that not all adults can be trusted is the best parenting advice I could ever give.

My children have known since they were old enough to talk to strangers, not all adults are good people, there exists in the world people who will hurt you. Don't trust someone just because they're an adult. Don't ever go with someone you don't know. Don't open the front door unless I say it's okay first. You know....maybe it's not likely that they'll be kidnapped but there are a number of things that could happen besides from that and it's always best to teach your kids to play it safe.

What the fuck, Penguin.

What is considered a safe environment in our world today? Flowers in the Attic?

Parents are perfectly capable of watching over their children, in most cases.

You harping on Thena is wrong of you.

Foot, meet mouth.

Why do you bother jumping in before discovering what we are even talking about.

Oh, and that comment needs to stop.

Seriously, it does.

This one:
Until you have children of your own, your opinion is invalid.

Seriously, the ill logic is quite apparent.

His advice was, as usual, in very poor taste. This isn't the first thread he's done this on, so yes, the pattern IS there.

Given the fact that he is 19 and literally has zero real world experience in the parenting department, he is the last person who should be doling out advice. Especially when it comes in the form of an insulting remark.

How you fail to see this is beyond me, but really, you should start reading this thread from the first page and not several pages in, when you miss half of the main reason why there is frustration here.
