My point was that based on Trump's quote, America is not a nation because the American / Canadian "border" is laughable compared to what he is trying to build on the American / Mexican border.
If a solid wall along the American / Mexican border is Trump's idea of a "border" that makes a nation, then America and Canada are the same country...

Wall can mean a lot of things.
President Obama said that the wall which was started by a bill in 2006 was completed under his term. I've heard commentators who say that it is about 75% complete.
My question is what is being proposed above what has already been done, and my concern is how effective it will be (wasting money). This isn't really anything new!
Personally, my solution is to put into place hefty fines, towards anyone caught employing someone without following proper labor laws, and checking for citizenship or a work visa.

We have no idea how much smuggling goes down on the northern border, because we don't patrol it like we do with the south for Reasons™. Border patrol isn't shy about telling us this, and asking for more attention to the porous northern border, especially as prescription drug abuse ravaged our country and led to a heroin epidemic.....
We have, however, caught more terrorists and suspected terrorists attempting to gain entry from Canada than from Mexico, in spite of our lax attitude.

I dunno. I think we should start building a wall across the Canadain border too. We don't want those Canucks coming over here and corrupting our language. They can't even pronounce their OUs correctly. Before you know it, your kids will be saying 'aboat' instead of 'about'. I'm for keeping the Canadians oat of here.

Well we can agree on that much. Employers need to have their feet held to the fire. A huge reason for overstaying a visa or sneaking across the border is the willingness of companies to hire cheap undocumented work.

I'd be more worried about the terrorists and pills, A ...but I don't worry about the things you worry about...so.... meh.
@F&F Why -wouldn't- they hire people from an institutionally created shadow demographic whom they can exploit at a whim while the ever pervasive threat of deportation and a groundswell of racist public opinion keep them in their place?

Of course there smuggling along the northern border Cigarettes, Guns, Drugs, and yes even human trafficking as surprising enough (I know I had a hard time believing it myself )
