So tell me, if I said, as an Atheist, that I refuse to change my mind, am I closed minded? If a religious person who agreed with you said they wouldn't change their mind, are they closed minded? What about religious people who disagree with you, are they closed minded?
The question is more aimed torwards religious people as you can probably tell.
If you think all the others who disagree with you are closed minded then what seperates your case from theirs?
Why in the first place would you refuse to change your mind about anything? That doesnt seem like an effective way to find truth, just clinging on to an answer and refusing to be convinced otherwise regardless of what we discover or see.
But how can you tell who is closed minded and who is not?
I'm having this as a back and forth with Drich at the moment. Apparently I'm a closed minded "Flat Earther" because I find his arguments unconvincing.
I have always said I am willing to have my mind changed by sufficiently strong evidence hey apparently you have to drink the koolaid to qualify as having an open mind.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

The problem is, theists claim they can slam dunk, until you find out they are playing on an 8' basketball hoop.
They lower their evidential requirements for their beliefs a lot lower than they would for other supernatural claims not within their specific theistic framework.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

To be closed minded is to not consider. To be un moved or unmotivated in thought till the 'tide' of the culture turns..
Most closed minded people think it's about being moved at all. As in if the evidence Demands All Believe "X". I would believe 'x' even though the pop belief is currently "Y". It's not about being able to follow th crowd's beliefs.
It is about having an open mind is to consider the alternative before evidence demands it. It is the ablity to adopt the life philosophy that even if the world works on nothing but absolutes, you are not privy to most of them. Therefore you are ready at a moments notice ready to challenge even your strongest beliefs, based on the truth you can find or identify.
Most of you if you were honest, you would admit you do not even know where to begin to challenge your foundational truths, without destroying yourselves in the process. As you are all super-ego and ID, no ego.

I have considered the idea of god and rejected it. I have also considered and rejected the idea of fairies and mermaids. There are people out there who genuinely believe in both those things and if you are to not be closed minded according to you you must believe them too.

Everybody is closed minded. And there's nothing you can say to change my mind.

Some of them couldn't change their minds if they had big nostrils, long fingers, and a change mind button up their nose...

When?
I follow your posts pretty closely, and all I ever see is flawed philosophical arguments.
Really? Flawed philosophical arguments? Name one. It seems to me that's just a way for you to justify atheists taking all these L's.
First of all, I never present any arguments, I counter-argue, If those counter-arguments are flawed then they should be refuted easily. Instead we have a number of people who have me on ignore after getting that work.
Secondly, my signature has been permanently disabled after quoting some of the ridiculous arguments that certain atheists here have made, that should tell you all you need to know...

There are plenty of threads that have been quickly abandoned by atheists after being confronted with facts, If the facts were flawed in any way you'd think they'd be all over it.

You do realize that quite a few of us atheist (possibly a large majority) were <insert some religion here> at some point in time? I was baptized Lutheran, indoctrinated as a christian, attended Sunday school, and confirmed Lutheran. Many of us have lived both sides of the tracks. In my personal experience, I gave Christianity the old college try, but I couldn't reconcile it with what I was seeing in the real world.
I think some peoples brains are wired differently. I tend to question and research everything.
The only thing that would change my mind that there is a god would be a massive and simultaneous communication by "god" to all people on the planet. I'm talking full on world comes to a complete stop, all weapons become non-operational, image of god on TV, voice on Radio across all frequencies, visible floating in the air to all humans, and giving us a precise message. god could toss in an end to pain and suffering, hunger, poverty, and a cure to all medical conditions just to prove it is serious.

You know very well why.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
