Will a vaccinated kid die from going to school with a non vaccinated kid though? I understand weighing the risks and consequences. Just don't know if this is being blown a little our of proportion.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

A vaccinated kid likely won't. Unless, they got a bad vaccination. The bigger threat is to kids that for one reason or another can't be vaccinated. Immuno-compromised kids. Cancer kids, auto-immune kids, etc... Why should someones stupid decision put these kids at risk?
If I had an immuno-compromised kid and some anti-vaxer's kid got them killed, I'd be doing my damnedest to see them in court. Preferably criminal, but civil if I had to.
You can call it a personal choice all you want, but like Tizheruk has already pointed out, it's just like the decision to drink and drive. You're putting others at risk.

We need to ensure that refusing vaccinations doesn't become the norm or popular. Herd immunity as a few others have mentioned is very important.
Yet, the crazies who still believe falsehoods like vaccinations cause autism are so eager to spread their lies (social media is one of their biggest tools) in the hopes that others will buy into them - including to the point where they'll lobby for laws that allow bogus exemptions.
The anti-vaccination crowd employs faulty logic and unsound reasoning when they refuse to allow their kids vaccinations. Reading a wellness blog is not research but you'd be surprised how many of these people think clicking around google constitutes "research".
I'll stick with the science and if laws need to be passed to fight against uninformed woo, so be it.

Or how about the whooping cough outbreak

Are those kids (cancer kids, immune deficient kids, etc) allowed to go to school with each other?

There was a leukemia kid in my graduating class. My daughter was in school with an HIV positive kid for years. Yes, immuno-compromised kids go to public schools.
ETA - The grade school my kids attended changed it's name to honor a student who was HIV positive and later died of AIDS.
Besides, kids don't congregate only at school. Boys and Girls clubs, movie theaters, the local mall on weekends, etc...
Don't drink and drive. Don't make decisions about immunizations based on celebrity endorsement of junk science.

So non vaccinated kids ARE allowed to go to school together. Why discriminate against certain ones then?

You're kidding right? The ones with a valid medical exemption (immuno compromised) are the ones that need to be protected from the ones with bullshit exemptions.
The "valid" kids parents take care not to expose their kids at any time/any place knowing the potential consequences. The schools/laws are trying to do the same. The "bullshit" kids parents I doubt care at all because their kids lives are not facing the same morbidity/mortality consequences. They only care about the one, their own kid.
Are you OK with the "bullshit" parents only my kid reasoning?

Sadly many of my affluent clients in Ca decided not to vaccinate. One was a highly educated lawyer with a kid that had no physical illnesses. Its a privileged choice for most and expecting others to vaccinate is their crutch. Many of my hairdresser girlfriends chose not to vaccinate and at the time I didn't care, because I knew my kids were safe. Now I see how their kids could effect a new baby, old person or highly susceptible child that can't get vaccinated and I say fuck u bitches. Learn something besides what the K family is teaching u and care about how u could be infecting other innocent folk. Glad ca is taking a stand but like everything people are still choosing to believe what they want. Maybe better education in schools would help. We push Std and Drug education. How about life threatened non vaxers be a subject to tackle.
