Too many, they were more interested in being the first to be right than doing God's will.

That's rather presumptuous of you. You have a direct line to what people in the past thought and what their motives were? I don't seriously doubt that they thought they were doing "God's" will and simply misinterpreted the "signs".

Serious question: how bad must things get for the believer to think he/she is living in the end times? After all, war, disease, famine, licentiousness, and corruption have been with us throughout the ages. I suppose you will appeal to alleged fulfillments of various prophesies, but those prophesies tend to be pretty vague -- so much so that it's understandable that others, living in bad times, might be forgiven for thinking those signs were being fulfilled in their lifetimes. No matter how messed up things may seem these days, I guarantee it's a walk in the park compared to the 14th Century.

I always thought there was something diabolical about Paul Daniels.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I was reading that thinking,  "The antichrist is a surgeon with a Gulfstream?".  What a let down.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I want to know the source of the anti-christ tales. Christianity took a lot from Greek mythology; and Sunni/Shiite Hadith tellers used Christian sources as a legitimate foundation.

I think Greek mythology influenced so many religious ideas; despite my belief that original Christians were true believers, some disbelieved and went against Jesus's teachings, producing the Christianity of today. So as ideas like the anti-christ:

Or mere  frustration with Nero, and Rome in general?
I don't think there is one.

Yeah, I liked him, at least for his act. For his politics, as well as his attitude in other areas, not so much. However, one thing always bugged me. If he was as good a magician as he portrayed, how come he was never able to wizard himself up a genuine head of hair, instead of the Trump Tribble he wore?

Do you reckon Debbie McGee was with him for the money, I mean she couldn't have been keen on that hairdo.

Because their god is meaningless without Satan. They realized that and added it to the fantasy. Keeps children scared and trusty of priests of god. But satan is just as real as god, a simple fantasy.

I wonder what first attracted Debbie McGee to the millionaire Paul Daniels?
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.
