Sure - proof is in the pudding. Or, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Basically, I see a lot of fucked up people among the atheists here. I generally don't say anything except with Brian. Over in life sciences there's threads on the first page on social anxiety and Aspergers. Note that I don't post in those. But when one of you comes out and calls theists immature or maladjusted, that opens things up.

Exactly, the idea that religion can be meaningfully compared to delusion is absurd.  It's sensus divinatus, not delusion!

When the religious on these boards and in life cease to tell us about their delusions, I'll stop pointing out that theism is delusional.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Because those are two separate issues. Knowing that something is is different from knowing what something is.

Theism, itself, is a what...not a that. -That-....would be deism. Magic Bookism..is a -which-.

Inconceivable.... I am told that atheists don't make claims or have beliefs.   So either one or the other is untrue, or those that claim both are deluded or dishonest.

We hold positions. And when we make claims, we base it on modern knowledge, not old mythology.

Depression is a disability just like diabetes. What matters, is how people deal with it. For some it leads them more deeply into their relationship with Christ and is the “hope that is in their heart” that tempers the despair.

…and better within marriage, too. Unfortunately that isn’t an option for some people. Like depression, it is a matter of how people deal with that…either by turning to Christ’s grace in times of temptation or indulging their lust in perverted desires. As Christians we could do a better job by recognizing the difficulty of such people while still encouraging them to rely on His strength.

I only thought it might help build better relationships. It would probably have been some benefit but I thought is was boring.

Well from my perspective it's hard not to see it as a delusion when many... not all but many... of its adherent's display all the hallmarks of delusion in their treatment of their beliefs; how they protect them, maintain them, and argue them. So even if I didn't see it before as a delusion, some of the batshit crazy and special pleading theories I've seen on this site, make me see it now... in some people. But as I said elsewhere, that's not enough to be an argument against god, but it's nonetheless hard to ignore.

Well back in the day it did exactly that; it was mainly through that game that I came to know and be friendly with CL, Kingpin, and alpha. Maybe he's right, maybe it has gone downhill since then, but I'd like to think it hasn't; that we can separate our religious beliefs or lack of from the person and just be friends despite very different opinions outside of that. Anyway, I'm sorry you found it boring.

Because delusions are only called delusions when they deviate from a persons existing belief system or cultural norms. From what we would -expect- that person in that society to see or hear or believe.

It's polite and undeserved deference, nothing more.

If a christian believes that god is talking to him, that's fine™. If a christian believes shiva is talking to him..that's delusional. If a christian and a hindu both start telling us that the trashcan is talking to them...they're both delusional.
