Blog section?

RE: Blog section?
That's what I'm trying to say Kev. They're under the impression that it's all there and ready for Tibs to flick a switch?
Maybe they know something I'm not aware of. Dunno

Kev, does modern forum sw these days have easy blog plugins?
No God, No fear.

Igno... she’s just making a suggestion. Lol is all, man.

I was all for it if there was a section where blogs were threads heh but now it sounds too fancy and complicated. At first I thought it was meant to be just a forum section where you can post your blogs in the form of regular threads. Ya know? And you could post as many threads as you want just like everything else around here. No special rules or capabilities. Actually making a blog setting with special features seems wistful. I do applaud the creativity, though. Heart

You can comment like that, sure.

The blog/journal is more of a personalized thing. Threads aren’t started here to just serve as ongoing journals of people’s lives. The site would be cluttered with random threads and it wouldn’t be organized.

Ok! I got it now! Create a blog section and limit the thread to one person. They can limit threads to two people in the debate forum.

lol No  Big Grin

Okay, I start a new blog, and I post the first entry. Then, you come along, and want to post something...under the blog, there is a comment area. Then, I can ''like'' it or reply to your comment. And then it flows from there.

Now, if it's a thread format, it would flow just like any other thread, but it would be a person's journal/diary/blog. Those work fine too, I mean, could it turn into a shit show? I guess. But, the forum rules would still apply.

Yea, that's cool, too. The thread idea is more common, to be honest. You just have a sub-forum titled ''Member blogs,'' or however the title is to be, and then people create threads with their blog title, and then continue on. That's how religious forums works, and it flows.  Cool

Dunno...I tend to write custom code. I find most prepackaged software difficult to use because clients tend to want things just so, and in the time it would take for me to learn how any particular piece of software worked under the hood and make the tweaks I would need to make, I could just write the entire thing myself.

In any event, it’s something that would take some time and/or money to do.

Not saying it’s impossible, just that it’s likely a bigger ask than most people realize.  At least, if it’s done right.

Yea, not sure of the logistics of it all, so if it's too much to add that separate feature like ''chat,'' the thread option works, and all that would be required is a subforum to be created.

It's just an idea that I thought I'd offer.

Nooo, it wouldn't be like that.

The thread that we're in right now, lol ...imagine this is someone's blog. And they add entries/updates in each day/week, and then people comment on them. (Just like you're posting now) But, the only thing is, it's not a free for all where people can just randomly post nonsense into someone's blog. It would still have to be on topic. (the person's blog would be the topic)

I should point out, my attitude comes from having to twist both WordPress (which I loathe for several reasons) and other forum software to do particular things for clients that couldn’t be addressed by plugins. Essentially changing and working against the core functionality of the software. I’d rather just use a solid framework like Symfony or Laravel and create something tailored to their needs. It’s just faster for me.

I hate WordPress. I put up a blog last year on there, and it's just I don't know. Hard to gain visibility, which is the whole point of that kind of blog. I loved the formatting options though.

Obviously, this wouldn't be that type of blog format, especially if AF goes for the idea and creates this into a subforum, and you just create a new thread for your blog.

RE: Blog section?
D, if you just want a category called blogs and each person has their own thread, that will work.
But what will stop someone posting crap in it? Who will monitor and police rules?

(I can see all the mods saying, yep, not me!)

Well, let’s hope we all can be adults and watch out for each other. ^_^
