It's a self-help book. It's totally just a self-help book. Unless Peterson goes into detail on weighty topics beyond the "common sense" rules espoused in the OP, it's not philosophy, just self-help.

Yeah... I don't go in for self-help books... but I'm guessing there must be more to it than that for there to be a thread about it. But regardless of whether or not this should be there, I still wish there was a Mind forum.

Besides Jordan Peterson being extraordinarily popular and reaching that popularity largely by opposing transgender rights?

Look, all I was saying was I wished there was a Mind/psychology forum, since that was mentioned in the OP... I'm not making any judgement on this one way or another other than to say it looks like a self-help book, which is not my thing... and I've never heard of Jordan Peterson or whatever controversy surrounds him.

My gut tells me that these are idealized rules and that even Jordan does not live up to them or a regular day to day basis. He doesn't live up to some of them in his videos.

And I'll eat your stray cat, but not pet it.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Good point. I just pointed out that since you said there was probably something deeper in it that could have accounted for its being posted here, there probably didn't need to be one because he's become a political pundit and there doesn't even need to be one.

And if you're looking into the controversy, here's a good place to start:

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Jordan_Peterson

He does have some good views (for someone so beloved by the alt-right, he does condemn racism in no uncertain terms; this probably puts him on the level of a Bush-era conservative), and he's written over 93 peer-reviewed articles to his name, a little less than 4938 citations in 3706 documents, and an h-index of 39 (note: 20 is good, 40 is outstanding, and 60 is exceptional). That said, his new fans don't care about what he has to say about the Big Five personality traits, or his studies of peoples' relationships with reading, or creative achievement, or even the early stuff that focused on alcoholism (the Scopus review of his work so far says these are the topics of his most cited papers), they just applaud him for telling them what they want to hear and giving them an air of mainstream respectability.

It's like Linus Pauling's obsession with Vitamin C after winning his Nobel Prizes, except it's something more toxic.

Fuck that shit. I owned an older home that had an add on with a flat roof. After the purchase of the home and securing the mortgage the insurance company decides that the flat roof is a.liability and threatens to cancel my insurance. So, I paid $1500 for a contractor to install a rubberised roof that met specs. I left state for two months to deal with unfinished business. While  I was gone these local pre and early teen skaters decided that climbing the unused CB radio tower onto my flat roof and using it as a skate park was too cool to pass up. They totally fucked up the roof and  had leaks into the add on. Cost me thousands and an increase to my insurance payments. Set the hounds on those little fuckers next time.

'tis a shame that the contractor didn't also broadcast white rocks onto that roof, to increase the albedo and reduce the cooling costs. Here in sunny California, a flat roof gets a rock texture, with rocks in the 1" or so range. Skate on that, little fuckers. NB- I had a skateboard as a kid, but only surfed sidewalks or the street. That other shit like handrails, roofs and so forth were not something I ever participated in. Around here, handrails have bumps welded on to discourage that "grind" shit.
