Brazil's new president promises Christian Theocracy

RE: Brazil's new president promises Christian Theocracy
mmmm do I smell a new caravan forming?

BTW this guy has same stance on women as most conservatives in US so no wonder Trump loves this guy.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

You believe what this guy says?

In a country where the majority are Christian, this is what winning politicians say. There is absolutely no way he's taking advice from the Pope.

He was a colonel during Brazil's last military dictatorship, and that's what he's promising to restore -- with extra violence.

The Wall Street Journal endorsed him, because he promises to undo all democratic protections for people and the environment that check business interests. The Canadian Broadcasting Company has downplayed his fascism and raved over the new business opportunities for Canadian investors. The New York Times uses words so mild as to be untrue, calling him a "controversial populist" instead of what he is -- pure fascist.

This is where the world is heading folks. Business loves it.

These right wing assholes do not understand that "secular" does not mean anti-religion, but merely NEUTRAL and anti monopoly on any SECT.

Saudi Arabia is a specific SECT of Islam and a theocracy. Iran is also a specific SECT and a theocracy. But, China is also a political SECT.

Sect, is the root of SECTION. In a secular pluralistic west, no one sect of society, be it religious, political or class, has a monopoly on government.

This is right wing fear of change and fascism.

This cuts to global greed. Unfortunately when you say this, these same assholes do not understand that pace of consumption and increasing pollution, may be good for short term global corporate profits, but it comes at the cost of ruining the planet, causing more unrest.

It isn't enough now simply to gain share holders and profits. The world needs to plan better and make business about solutions, not consumption.

Meanwhile, I, a Canadian, have put both Burger King and Tim Horton's (as well as Popeye's, which I was meaning to try someday) on my no-buy list because the Canadian branches are indirectly owned by a Brazilian investment firm.

Brazil has a serious educational handicap in the population. I know a lot of them (immigrants that come here to Portugal in search of better opportunities) and I notice that despite being on average good workers.

This also explains why ghey voted for such measly rethoric. That and the previous governments were haunted by corruption scandals.
