I don't tend to rank atheists. They're often brilliant at times, and confounding at others. Hitch was brilliant, but some of his politics left a lot to be desired. You can say something similar about all the big names: Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris, and so on.

I prefer Victor Stenger's books promoting atheistic perspectives, since he had such a good grasp of both philosophical and scientific issues.

Define best. Best knitting? Best in what?
When not believing the god claim, how do you go about determining being the best in that?
Perhaps the question should be "who do you think is the most influent atheist of our times?"
Of our times, none. Hitchens is dead.

Jessica Ahlquist of Rhode Island who at age 16 filed a lawsuit in 2012 against Cranston High School West, where she was a student, to remove a religious prayer from its auditorium. The suit, Ahlquist v. Cranston, was filed with the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union, and was ultimately decided in Ahlquist's favor. During the lawsuit, Ahlquist received hate mail and was verbally attacked by her peers, media outlets, and online. She received death threats, and required police escorts to and from classes.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A MOVIE MADE ABOUT HER.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
