1. Should ANY firearms be prohibited?
Yes. Ugly ones.
2. Should people convicted of violent crimes have their gun rights taken away for an as-yet-to-be-determined probationary period?
No. Those people should be launched into space without a spacesuit.
3. Should firearms owners be required to purchase liability insurance?
Yes. As should the owners of swords, knives and any .pointy or blunt object capable of killing.
4. Should there be a minimum age at which a person is allowed to handle a firearm, even under adult supervision?
18 weeks.
5. While reading up on US gun laws for another thread, I learned that while some states have a three, or five, or seven day waiting period to buy a gun, some states have an exception: If the background check isn't completed within the time frame, the sale goes through. Is this a bad idea?
They should employ psychics - who would know ahead of time you want a gun - and they' ll simply send it to you and bill you later.

Thanks for taking the time. I can tell by your thoughtful replies that you've spent considerable time evaluating the rights and responsibilities that come with gun ownership.

No, but that doesn't mean some firearms shouldn't be more closely controlled than others.
2. Should people convicted of violent crimes have their gun rights taken away for an as-yet-to-be-determined probationary period?
Yes. Anyone with a felony conviction has permanently lost their right to possess a firearm under our existing laws. Some states allow a felon to petition to have those rights restored, but generally speaking only more equal pigs are successful at that. I believe the same holds true at the federal level, but getting your right restored at that level is considerably more difficult than at the state level.
3. Should firearms owners be required to purchase liability insurance?
I'm OK with this in principal, but only if the cost is very low for your average citizen. Gun ownership is different than say owning a car in that it is a protected right. Restricting that right with expensive qualifiers such as mandatory training, licensing, or insurance is discriminatory against low income people. I'm alright with these things as long as the government provides them at little to no cost.
4. Should there be a minimum age at which a person is allowed to handle a firearm, even under adult supervision?
About the time you can pass the mirror test.

This is actually a federal thing, and if the god damned fed can't make a decision in 3 days then fuck em.

Yes, I understood you had anxiety problems already. Do you know why? Because normal, happy, sane individuals do not live in constant fear that they will need to defend themselves with a gun; unless, of course, they live in a high-crime neighborhood, which you apparently don't.
You also never responded to my questions about arming teachers, in whichever thread that was,

I have, but I don't currently own one. I live in a metro-accessible area, so I save money that way. What are you getting at?
