Slap a fine on him, put him in jail for 30 days. A jail with less rape, more cheesecake, and drywall. A jail where you can get waivers.

Not to mention non violent criminals generally get sent to lesser security prisons .Not to mention the dozens of ways a sentence can be reduced and prison rape can be dealt with. Need i also mention lots of countries have made prisons that are reasonably humane and safe .

The point is spreading fear between criminals or any person who wants to commit robbery in the future.
Though, eye witnesses can be filtered and validated through many steps of trial. In our age, cameras might be used too.
