The point is spreading fear between criminals or any person who wants to commit robbery in the future.
Though, eye witnesses can be filtered and validated through many steps of trial. In our age, cameras might be used too.
Sounds like cruelty is the point. Spreading fear makes people fearful, but it doesn't prevent them from committing crimes. You end up with a larger pile of severed hands and no fewer criminals.
I have to ask, though, what was with all that kumbaya horseshit from earlier? Maybe we should rape people to death with frozen cheesecakes, to spread fear. It won't prevent crime, but neither will cutting off appendages.

You can't stop crime anyway; and no matter what you do you'll have criminals who never fear punishments, but who ever said that punishment is to end crime? it is for the victim of the crime to sleep better at night.

The aftermath of criminal activity is devastating to a community; if these are times of "peace" in many countries, wait until it becomes the exact opposite. And don't forget how rifles and guns are still in use by cops to this day -ask them why-.

Spreading fear in response to criminal behavior is the best method to fight crime. That's exactly why the police is armed. I would sleep better knowing that thieves are punished under a just system. Sure, except for how it doesn't work at all to fight crime. You might not be aware, but I presume that god would know that. I'm not sure how police work in islamistan - but they're not supposed to be stormtroopers, in the west, spreading fear with their guns. That's not at all why they're armed...if and when they're armed, lol.

I did, and I'm asking you whether you would sleep better at night knowing that someone is mutilating and torturing people in your name. I think that we could also use some clarity as to whether incarceration is too cruel, or not cruel enough.
