But we digress
..
To the OP.
WHY?
I admire the woman. She did a lot of good - for a deeply religious, gun toting Republican...
But why the need to change the currency?

We change our currency all the time. I don't think need comes in. I think that it's amazing that it's taken to just about the end of cash money to deal with the issue of what we represent on it's face.
Had plenty of time to put birds and shit on it.

"All the time"?
Jackson has been on the 20 for over 90 years.
I wouldn't call that "all the time".

Who carries cash? I used to for tips but I haven't been to a restaurant in so long that's not even a thing in my world any more.
The only person I pay in cash is the dog groomer who comes to my house. I have a stash of cash here at home for her visits.

Relax. Having a black woman on your twenty won't devalue it.

But why the need to change the currency? Because maybe the government is no longer comfortable with putting someone directly responsible for ethnic cleansing and ramping up the genocides of the American Indian on money? Sure, Washington and Jefferson were slaveholders, Lincoln violated due process, FDR created internment camps for the Japanese (admittedly meant to be a temporary measure, but that doesn’t make it much better), Grant completely shit the bed on his presidency, and Ben Franklin was probably patient zero for syphilis, but they all had accomplishments that balanced their legacies out. And the accomplishments of Jacksonian democracy are just getting more and more hollow with every generation. His tenure has become defined by his blatant racism, and it’s become clear that that’s not something the government wants to endorse anymore.

That's a good idea. The state quarters are kind of cool. We could cycle through state birds and flowers and such on paper money as well as coins.

Sounds like the twenties had it coming, then. Yeah, all the time. It was Grover Cleveland before that. It's a thing we do, we change the patterns on our minted and printed currencies....but we did seem to fall into a bit of a funk for awhile on that....
Heads for racist, tails for slave plantation.
Guess we'll never figure out how that came to be and it's certainly absurd to imagine that anyone might take issue - and it's not like money ever changes, so what gives, amiright?
