The question is not whether the god of Dante makes sense but rather whether he is good.

Then tell it to Belacqua because he was the first one to bring it up.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Yes, and I was pointing out that Nudger's response was a red herring. I was addressing the failings in Nudger's response, not those of Bel.

The question is not whether the god of Dante makes sense but rather whether he is good.

Is god meaningfully good if the construction of the assertion that he is also necessarily makes him nonsensical?

If god does that then it would be impossible for us to be having this discussion.
Yeah no that's totally wrong.

Really?  Which part is wrong for what reason? That is reason Other than the fact your sense of why it is not a waste of time for you to keep on living is dependent on believing this bullshit?

Didn't have much to add about that, seemed like a more or less accurate overview of classical theology to me? Bit of a tautology. Is the god defined as the good, good? Sure, why not. The trouble with respect to classical theology and christianity, imo is that it was a patch up job. The narratives and doctrine do not map to the philosophical position - though many have been convinced they do (and we'd never run out of examples of some horrid thing they were sure was gods good work at whatever time, dante being a good example himself).

They tried their best. This was it.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Something that satisfied all desires would still be subject to criticism.

Because not all desires should be satisfied. Some people desire to torture animals, and they will criticize whatever stops them.

Even a God which satisfied all GOOD desires would get lots of criticism, because people often don't know what's good for them.

There would likely be people who think that having your desires satisfied in toto by some external being was, itself, bad. We don't exactly have a high opinion of shifty dynastic wealth, for example.
