@ FlatAssembler You also don’t seem to know what the ketogenic diet is. It is not necessarily low in protein. You can follow a ketogenic diet eating protein in proportions of about 20% of total calories, which is roughly the same as the recommended amount for general healthful diets. A big factor related to kidney stone formation in people following keto is lack fruits and vegetables, which is why prophylactic potassium citrate is often prescribed in that very population of children you were speaking of. You don’t have a coherent grasp on the subject you’re speaking on. Just stop.

Also, here is a peer-reviewed journal article for your review that touches on the complex physiological systems that regulate hunger and satiety so that you can edify yourself, and stop saying over-simplified, idiotic shit like: “hunger is caused by low levels of leptin.”

LadyForCamus Wrote:The body absolutely can and does convert protein into glucose in the absence of carbohydrates. Yes, of course, but eating a high-protein meal does not lead to a spike in blood glucose levels.

@ FlatAssembler It leads to a spike in insulin as @ Paleophyte said, not a spike in blood glucose. You understand these two physiological reactions are different, right?

I was referring to this diagram from the video I was responding to:
We agree it is simplistic at best, right?

I am quite sure that's not the case. Vegetarian diets are lower in fat and protein, but are higher in carbohydrates.
Quote:Paleophyte Wrote:Whatever does your body do with all that protein that you just stuffed your face with?
Are you kidding me? Your body needs protein for just about everything, not just for gluconeogenesis.
OK, I'll keep this simple.
- Protein goes in the cake hole.
- Unless you are very sick, protein doesn't come back out any of the holes. Protein in pee BAD!
- Your body doesn't simply store it all or you'd be a hulking slab of beef by age 5. And very unpleasantly dead.
- So if it goes in but doesn't come back out and it doesn't get stored, then... (work with me here Flat)

Was it the lack of labels or units on the axes that gave it away? Of course it's simplistic! The nice doctor has made a simplified diagram for a very non-technical audience. Simplistic does not make it wrong.

Simplistic does not make it wrong. It's wrong because, like @ LadyForCamus said, while protein you eat does raise your insulin levels, it does not raise your glucose levels. Insulin and glucose levels are not strictly correlated. And the effect of different types of fat on glucose levels is way more complicated than "essentially a flat line".

I said it doesn’t spike glucose levels. But this conversation is pointless without any context, tbh.

I'm pretty sure that this conversation is far more pointless than that.
