What do humans need normal visual perception for if they can function without it?

The enormous gulf between something that works and something that works well. Sensory pathways that impinge on the conscious mind have a clear advantage over those that don't in that we can rapidly adapt our responses as necessary. We can think about our actions and learn from them. That isn't possible based on instinct alone.

Imagine for a moment that I threw a cactus to you. Do you decide to catch it or dodge it? Guess what the poor bugger with blindsight is picking out of his hands.

Qualia is the sort of rubbish that you get when untrained amateurs living under the reign of Queen Victoria start arguing about neuroscience. Of course they had to pull it out of their asses. The first fMRI images were over a century away.

People with blindsight are really good at solving extremely complex problems like catching a ball and qualia don't seem to be necessary.
