1. we don't if it would have been necessary or not nor does it matter really because when it was implemented it likely was.

2. Most of his criticisms of asset freezing were about there being no mechanism to unfreeze them. Not the act of freezing the assets themselves which he acknowledged worked.

Feds fine Mormon church for illicitly hiding $32 billion investment fund behind shell companies

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints engaged in the scheme for more than 20 years.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a nonprofit entity that it controlled have been fined $5 million by the Securities and Exchange Commission over accusations that the religious institution failed to properly disclose its investment holdings.

In an order released Tuesday, the SEC alleged that the church illicitly hid its investments and their management behind multiple shell companies from 1997 to 2019. In doing so, it failed to disclose the size of the church’s equity portfolio to the SEC and the public.

The church was concerned that disclosure of the assets in the name of the nonprofit entity, called Ensign Peak Advisors, which manages the church's investments, would lead to negative consequences in light of the size of the church’s portfolio, the SEC said.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

A religious institution engaging in fraudulent practices? How unprecedented.

The scummy, lying, cowardly, complicit-in-child-murdering former police chief of Uvalde, Texas got his firing classification upgraded from ‘dishonourable’ to ‘general’.

Only cost 5m to service 32b? That'd just convince me to do it again.

Right? That's like .015% of the amount in question - virtually a rounding error.

All over the country a cop can stop you, "smell weed", and take all the money in your wallet on the theory that the money is guilty of a crime. Does that only apply to we lowly peasants? Is a 32b fund deliberately hidden for illicit purposes somehow not guilty of a crime?

‘Talking dollars’: Pro-life Alaska Republican says society benefits when child abuse turns fatal (msn.com)

Alaska state Rep. David Eastman ® has inspired outrage after a video of him went viral where he argues there's a "net benefit" to society when a child dies of abuse because then the state doesn't have to pay for their care and other services. Eastman campaigned on the "sanctity of human life."

"In the case where child abuse is fatal—obviously it's not good for the child—but it's actually a benefit to society because there aren't needs for government services and whatnot through the child's life," Eastman said.

Giant ass. As bad as DeSantis (and that asshole gov of Arkansas) pushing for having schools require female athletes to provide histories of their menstrual cycles. These guys are, simply put, perverts.
