I agree, this was the start of the horrible polarizing we see today.
The trouble is that Murdoch had discovered an excellent business model. You make more money by feeding the hate and fear of your viewers than by offering anything like balance. So then MSNBC and, to a lesser extent, CNN and other stations adopted the same business model, but aimed at a different demographic. And neither side feels any duty to tell the truth at all.
So now we're at the point where reality appears different depending on what media you watch. Pro-Harris people can't even imagine how a sane person could support Trump, because their media invariably say there is no reason -- other than racism or misogyny. The idea that sane thinking people could respectfully disagree is no longer possible.
Media coverage aside, anyone who can't see and understand that racism and misogyny are exactly what make Trumpism attractive to garbage-headed morons has either mental issues or a pretty unattractive agenda of their own (voiced or not).
Sane people do not support candidates who embrace racism, misogyny, childish trade policies, suppression of the press, jailing political opponents, sexual assault, fraudulent business practices, voter suppression, and the destruction of democracy.

Belacqua doesn't support Trump because of his racism & misogyny, but because Belacqua hates the US and wants to see Americans suffer. And when Trump appoints anti-vaxxers as head of the FDA and crashes the economy with his idiotic tariffs, the Americans will be dying left and right which will make him happy.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Or, something like that.
Polls aren't everything.
Let's hope that they're right, however.
I know, I have been telling everyone don't assume. Went to a transgender ally support group and a couple attendees said they had not voted yet but would tomorrow, I was very stern with them saying, they had better, and they promised they would. Polls are not everything that is true, but if accurate they can be a good indicator. But we still need the petal to the metal and all hands on deck until 7pm-8pm depending zip code.

Obviously racists and misogynists don't make whole of trump electorate. There are also fascists, religious nuts, conspiracy theorists, far righters who aren't fascists yet...

In the end it is really sad that the most powerful country in the world expresses as candidates these 2, both Harris & Trump are really "underperforming" persons.
Part of my family is from US and they all have declared themselves proud democrats, since the 1930s, but they did not voted for Clinton (abstained), they did vote for Biden (very much underestimated in his accomplishments) and now some of them will vote Harris, some other will abstain.
IS it really impossible to find 2 good candidates like for example Romney and Obama? It is less than 20 years ago that they were candidates but it looks like geologic eras have passed in between.
Romney is a Mormon, but he is a respectful person. He is not my cup of tea, but I think he is the kind of candidate the Republican should put in place

Harris is a run-of-the-mill Democrat politician. Trump is wanting to tear down our checks-and-balances in order to massage his toxic ego.
You're right, neither candidate is ideal -- but this idea that they're both simply and equally mediocre is not accurate. Harris is mediocre. Trump is malignant.
As for Romney, he too gave his support to Trump before turning on him. The Republicans are going to have a hell of a time putting their party back together after Trump loses, which I think will be the outcome of this election.

I guess I just never really paid enough attention to the man to notice that his hand signal resembles that of a certain historical figure.

The question of why we can't find two good candidates like romney and obama seems answered in the asking, to me. Romney was a vulture capitalist, obama was a drone warlord and deporter in chief. Both decided wall street was too big to fail and americans were too small to matter.

To be honest, I think the democratic presidential candidates do have the people's best interest in mind. What I believe happens is that they discover, upon settling into the job and probably something the republicans already know, is that there is a certain power dictating what they can realistically achieve in office.
