Ben Shapiro vs Neil deGrasse Tyson: The WAR Over Transgender Issues
#31
RE: Ben Shapiro vs Neil deGrasse Tyson: The WAR Over Transgender Issues
Pretty sure there's objective evidence for the existence of trans people.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

One can be aware that trans people exist without also accepting that existence gives them an inherent right to define themselves and their place in society - particularly if it comes at the cost of others.

What would that cost be?

1) We all define ourselves, rights or no. I don't need or ask your approval to define myself as I am. I possess that right simply by the fact that I exist. If you don't like how I define myself, go suck a bag of taints. You don't have a say in anyone else's self-definition.

2) This idea that transfolk defining themselves as such has a "cost" to you is really weak shit, snowflake. What is it hurting you?

I'm not trans but I'm really big on John Donne:

Quote:No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

Should you desire to wash away the rights of others, you ought to expect that your own rights will in kind be washed away as well. Rather than push your religious bias upon others, you should learn how to live and let live.

And who gets to define other people? YOU?
If you are so confused about the fundamental human right of self determination, go and read a few constitutions, including the one of your own country. If that's not convincing to you, go and read a few UN charters.

Why would we withhold that right from one small group, when we grant it to everyone else? How does it cost anyone anything? This seems like the oft touted apologists "right to be bigoted" to me.

Welllll it's technically an inalienable right, but nobody should ever be bigoted in the first place....it's like saying, "I have the right for my breath to stink like dog shit"....it's like, yeah actually you do, but at what cost?

I certainly can see how the religious bigotry @TheWhiteMarten is peddling has a cost, I just don't see what a trans person living their lives as themselves costs anyone else, as @TheWhiteMarten claimed. Of course having made the claims, he will likely ghost anyone asking him to evidence them, this is often the case with religious apologists who just want to preach religious bigotry with impunity.
